Guardians of Desire: A Disabled Love Story with a Healthy Dose of Sass and Sarcasm

Chapter One: The Unlikely Guardian

The Westwood Academy’s courtyard was a flurry of activity during lunchtime, with students milling about, chatting, and laughing. But amidst the chaos, two figures stood out – Amelia and Emily.

Amelia was buxom and vivacious, with a mane of curly auburn hair and sparkling green eyes. She sat in her wheelchair, her legs bent and tucked to one side, a playful smirk on her face. Emily, on the other hand, was timid and blind, her long dark hair falling in loose waves down her back. She held a white cane in one hand and a sandwich in the other, her nose wrinkling in concentration as she took a tentative bite.

“Come on, Em,” Amelia coaxed, her voice low and teasing. “You can’t tell me you don’t notice him. The new school guard – Jack, isn’t it? He’s hard to miss.”

Emily flushed, her cheeks turning a soft pink. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said primly, taking another bite of her sandwich.

Amelia chuckled, her eyes gleaming. “Oh, come on. You can’t fool me. I can feel the tension between you two from here.”

Emily’s flush deepened, and she shook her head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she repeated, her voice stubborn.

Amelia rolled her eyes, but her smile didn’t fade. “Fine, be that way. But I dare you – I dare you to use your heightened senses and tell me what you really think of him.”

Emily’s nose twitched, and she hesitated. “I don’t know…” she began, but then she trailed off, her expression thoughtful.

She picked up on his faint cologne, mixed with the scent of fresh rain. She heard the sound of his steady, strong heartbeat, and the way his breath caught when he moved.

Amelia watched her friend, her eyes narrowing in satisfaction as Emily’s cheeks flushed even deeper. “See?” she said, her voice smug. “I knew you couldn’t resist.”

Emily scowled, but there was a hint of a smile on her lips. “Fine,” she said, her voice grudging. “He’s… nice. I guess.”

Amelia snorted, but she didn’t push the issue any further. Instead, she watched as Jack approached them, his tall, muscular form moving with an easy grace.

He was unaware of the effect he had on the girls, his eyes focused on Amelia as he kindly offered his assistance. “Here, let me help you with that,” he said, his voice deep and soothing.

Amelia was taken aback, her heart skipping a beat at his genuine kindness. She couldn’t help but feel a spark of attraction towards him, and she found herself staring at him, her eyes wide and curious.

Emily, still blinded by her initial judgment of Jack, playfully insulted him, calling him a “muscle-brained oaf.”

But Jack, surprisingly quick-witted, shot back with a charming retort, leaving Emily stunned and intrigued. “And here I thought you were the smart one,” he said, his voice teasing.

Amelia found herself feeling protective of Jack, stepping in to defend him against Emily’s jabs. “Hey, now,” she said, her voice stern. “That’s not very nice.”

Emily, realizing her mistake, began to see Jack in a new light, her interest piqued. She found herself wanting to know more about him, to understand what made him tick.

Jack, sensing the girls’ growing attraction towards him, found himself drawn to them as well. He was surprised by how comfortable he felt around them, how easy it was to talk to them.

Amelia, ever the bold one, took the lead, inviting Jack to join them for lunch. “Hey, Jack,” she said, her voice friendly. “Why don’t you join us for lunch?”

Jack, hesitant at first, eventually agreed, sitting down between the two girls and engaging in light-hearted conversation.

As the lunch period came to an end, the three of them shared a moment of comfortable silence, a sense of connection growing between them.

Amelia watched as Jack stood up, his tall form towering over her. “Thanks for the company,” he said, his voice sincere.

Emily smiled, her blind eyes shining with warmth. “Thank you,” she said, her voice soft.

Amelia nodded, her own heart fluttering in her chest. “See you around, Jack,” she said, her voice teasing.

And with that, the unlikely trio parted ways, each of them carrying a piece of the other with them.
