Harry and Hermione's Wild Wand Duel

### Chapter One: Sparks and Snarks

The Gryffindor common room was a sanctuary of shadows and warmth at this late hour, the fire in the hearth casting a soft, flickering glow over the worn armchairs and scattered books. The rest of the house was lost to dreams, the silence broken only by the occasional pop of embers. Harry Potter slumped into a chair near the fire, his glasses slightly askew, a potions textbook dangling from one hand. Across from him, Hermione Granger sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by a fortress of parchment and quills, her brow furrowed in concentration. The weight of their N.E.W.T.s hung over them like a storm cloud, and the air was thick with unspoken tension.

“Honestly, Harry, if you mispronounce ‘Wingardium Leviosa’ one more time, I’m going to levitate you straight out the window,” Hermione snapped, her voice sharp enough to cut through the drowsy haze. She didn’t even look up from her notes, her quill scratching furiously across the page.

Harry rolled his eyes, tossing the textbook onto the nearest table with a dramatic thud. “Oh, come off it, Hermione. I didn’t butcher it that badly. Besides, I’ve saved the world—what’s a little mispronunciation going to do? End civilization?”

She finally glanced up, her brown eyes glinting with a mix of irritation and amusement. “Saved the world, yes, but you’ll fail Potions if you can’t even charm a feather to float. And don’t think I’ll let you copy my notes when you inevitably beg for help.” She smirked, leaning back on her hands, her posture daring him to argue.

Harry grinned, leaning forward in his chair, elbows on his knees. “Beg? Me? Never. I’ve got charm for days, Granger. I could sweet-talk Snape into giving me an Outstanding if I wanted to.”

Hermione snorted, a sound that was equal parts derision and delight. “Oh, please. The only thing you’ve ever sweet-talked is trouble. And maybe a broomstick or two.” Her gaze flicked over him, lingering just a moment too long on the way his shirt stretched across his shoulders. She caught herself and straightened, her tone growing imperious. “Now, say it with me: Win-GAR-dium Levi-O-sa. Emphasis on the ‘gar.’”

Harry mimicked her tone, dragging out the syllables with exaggerated flair. “Win-GAR-dium Levi-OOOO-sa. Happy now, Professor Granger? Or do I need to bow at your feet for extra credit?”

Her lips twitched, fighting a smile, but her eyes were alight with mischief. “Bow? Oh, I’d settle for a simple ‘thank you, Hermione, for saving my hopeless arse yet again.’ But I suppose that’s too much to ask from the Chosen One.” She tilted her head, her voice dripping with mock sweetness. “Or are you too busy being a hero to admit you need me?”

Harry’s green eyes narrowed, but there was a spark in them, a challenge accepted. He slid out of the chair, dropping to his knees on the rug in front of her, close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from him. “Need you? Granger, I’ve survived worse than your lectures. But if you’re so desperate for gratitude, I’ll play along. Thank you, oh mighty Hermione, for gracing me with your infinite wisdom.” He bowed his head dramatically, peeking up at her through his messy fringe with a wicked grin.

Hermione’s breath hitched, but she masked it with a scoff, leaning forward until their faces were mere inches apart. Her voice dropped, low and commanding. “Careful, Potter. Keep talking like that, and I might start thinking you enjoy being on your knees for me.”

The air between them crackled, charged with something far more dangerous than exam stress. Harry’s grin faltered, replaced by a look of raw, unguarded intensity. “And what if I do?” he shot back, his voice rougher now, daring her to push further.

Her eyes darkened, a predator sizing up her prey. “Then you’d better prove it, Chosen One. I don’t waste my time on empty promises.” Before he could retort, she reached out, her fingers curling into the collar of his shirt, tugging him closer with a strength that surprised him. “Or are you all talk and no action?”

Harry’s hands instinctively found her waist, steadying himself as the space between them vanished. “You want action, Granger? Be careful what you wish for.” His words were a growl, and then her lips crashed into his—or maybe his into hers, it was impossible to tell. It was messy, desperate, a collision of frustration and unspoken want that had been simmering for far too long. Her hands slid up to grip his hair, pulling just hard enough to make him groan against her mouth, while his fingers dug into her hips, anchoring her to him as if she might slip away.

She kissed like she argued—fierce, unrelenting, taking control with every tilt of her head, every nip of her teeth against his lower lip. Harry fought back just as hard, his tongue teasing hers, refusing to let her have the upper hand for long. It was a battle, a dance, a storm of pent-up heat that neither of them had dared to acknowledge until this moment.

When they finally broke apart, gasping for air, Hermione’s cheeks were flushed, her lips swollen and glistening. She stared at him, half-laughing, half-disbelieving. “Well, Potter,” she panted, her voice still laced with that commanding edge, “I didn’t think you had it in you.”

Harry chuckled, his forehead resting against hers, his hands still firm on her waist. “And I didn’t think you’d be the one to make the first move. Guess we’re both full of surprises.” His thumb brushed against her side, a subtle promise of more, and her eyes flashed with hunger.

“Don’t get cocky,” she warned, though her smirk betrayed her. “This doesn’t mean I’m done bossing you around. In fact, I think I’ve just begun.”

He grinned, the firelight catching the mischief in his gaze. “Wouldn’t have it any other way, Granger.”

They stayed there, tangled in each other’s heat, breathless and buzzing with the absurdity of it all. The common room was still quiet, the world outside oblivious to the shift that had just occurred. But between them, a new fire had ignited—one that promised to burn hotter with every snark, every challenge, every stolen touch.
