Jemma's Exorcism: A Tale of Love, Loss, and Redemption

Chapter One: A Bath and a Bottle of Wine

The doorbell rang, echoing through the quiet house and startling Darza out of his peaceful soak. He glanced at the clock on the wall, a gift from his grandmother, its hands spinning lazily around the face. L.D. was early. He smiled to himself, sinking deeper into the bubbles.

He heard the front door open and close, the sound of footsteps approaching the bathroom. L.D. appeared in the doorway, her eyes widening as they took in the sight of him, lounging in the tub like a modern-day Roman emperor.

"Well, well, well," she drawled, a wicked grin spreading across her face. "Fancy meeting you here."

Darza chuckled, gesturing to the empty space beside him. "Join me, won't you?"

L.D. didn't need a second invitation. She undressed in a flurry of movement, her clothes falling to the floor in a heap. She stepped into the tub, sinking into the warm water with a sigh of contentment.

They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, the only sound the gentle lapping of the water against the porcelain. Darza reached for the bottle of wine sitting on the edge of the tub, pouring a generous glass for each of them.

"So," L.D. began, her voice light and teasing. "Is this how you always welcome your guests?"

Darza laughed, taking a sip of his wine. "Only the special ones."

L.D. raised an eyebrow, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Oh, really? And what makes me so special?"

Darza shrugged, trying to play it cool. "I don't know. Maybe it's the way you make me feel."

L.D.'s smile faltered for a moment, her eyes searching his face. "And how's that?"

Darza took a deep breath, deciding to be honest. "Alive. You make me feel alive, L.D. Like I've been sleeping for years and you're the one who finally woke me up."

L.D.'s eyes softened, her hand reaching out to cover his. "I'm glad."

They sat like that for a while, lost in their own thoughts. Darza broke the silence, his voice tinged with curiosity.

"L.D., I barely know anything about you."

L.D. looked at him, her eyes bright. "Want to get to know me? Just ask. I'll tell you anything you want to know. But then you have to do the same."

Darza nodded, intrigued. "Okay. What's something interesting about you?"

L.D. thought for a moment, a small smile playing on her lips. "Well, first of all, my name is Jemma. I love music, books, and singing. I prefer quiet and peace over adventure. I'm not really exciting, I guess."

Darza smirked, raising an eyebrow. "Not exciting, huh? I'll be the judge of that."

Jemma rolled her eyes, playfully splashing water at him. "Your turn to ask a question."

Darza thought for a moment, his mind racing with possibilities. He settled on one, his voice soft.

"Have you ever been in love?"

Jemma's expression became distant, her eyes focused on some far-off point. "Yes, once. A long time ago. It didn't end well."

Darza's heart clenched in his chest, a sudden urge to protect her from whatever pain she had endured. "What happened?"

Jemma took a deep breath, her voice steady as she told the story of her first love. How they had met when she was 16 and he was 17, and how they had spent every waking moment together, lost in their own little world. How he had been her rock, her confidant, her partner in crime.

And then, one fateful night, he had been taken from her in a tragic accident. A drunk driver, a senseless moment of violence, and he was gone.

Darza listened, his heart breaking for her. He reached out, taking her hand in his, offering what little comfort he could.

Jemma finished her story, her voice barely above a whisper. "I made a promise to myself never to love again. It's better this way."

Darza looked at her, his heart filled with determination. "I want to make you happy, Jemma. Let me in. Let me love you."

Jemma looked at him, her eyes shining with unshed tears. She leaned forward, her lips brushing against his in a soft, gentle kiss.

And in that moment, Darza knew that he was lost. Lost in the depths of Jemma's eyes, lost in the warmth of her embrace, lost in the promise of a love that he had once thought was impossible.
