Love Beast: Taming the Wild Heart

### Chapter One: Unleashing the Beast

The campus bar, aptly named The Drunken Scholar, was a chaotic symphony of clinking glasses, raucous laughter, and the occasional drunken shout over the thumping bass of a generic pop remix. The air was thick with the stale scent of cheap beer, spilled tequila, and the kind of questionable decisions that only a Thursday night in a college town could inspire. Neon lights flickered above the sticky bar counter, casting a garish glow over the sea of students grinding, giggling, and groping their way through the night.

At the center of it all, holding court like a queen on a throne of bad ideas, was Lena Voss. A senior with a reputation sharper than the stilettos she wore, Lena was the undisputed ruler of the campus social scene. Her jet-black hair cascaded over her shoulders in effortless waves, and her crimson lipstick was a warning sign to anyone foolish enough to cross her. She lounged at a high-top table near the back, one leg crossed over the other, her tight leather skirt riding just high enough to command attention without giving away the game. Surrounding her were her posse—three equally fierce women who could cut a man down with a glance or a word. Together, they were a force of nature, a storm of wit and will that no one dared to challenge.

“Honestly, if I have to watch one more frat bro attempt a keg stand and fail, I’m going to start charging for the entertainment,” Lena drawled, swirling the amber liquid in her glass with a bored expression. Her voice carried over the noise, sharp and dripping with disdain.

Tessa, a statuesque blonde with a penchant for brutal honesty, snorted into her beer. “You’d make bank, babe. Half these idiots would pay just to hear you roast them.”

“True,” Lena smirked, her dark eyes glinting with mischief. “But I don’t do charity work. If they want my attention, they’d better bring something worth my time.”

“Speaking of worth your time…” Mara, the group’s resident gossip with a mane of fiery red curls, leaned in, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Have you seen the new guy yet? Transfer student. Jace something-or-other. Word is, he’s got a body carved by the gods and a reputation that’d make even *you* blush, Lena.”

Lena arched a perfectly sculpted brow, her interest piqued. “Oh? And what exactly are we talking about here? Because I’ve heard a lot of rumors in my day, Mara, and most of them are about as exciting as a wet sock.”

Mara grinned, relishing the moment. “They’re calling him the ‘love beast.’ Supposedly, he’s got a wild side that comes out when the lights go down. Left a trail of broken hearts at his last school. Thought you might want to… tame him.”

A chorus of “ooohs” erupted from the table as Lena’s lips curled into a wicked smile. A challenge. She lived for those. “A love beast, huh? Sounds like a lot of hype for a guy who probably can’t handle a real woman. Where is this mythical creature?”

Mara nodded toward the bar, where a tall, broad-shouldered figure stood, leaning casually against the counter. Even from across the room, Jace was impossible to miss. His dark hair was tousled just enough to look like he’d rolled out of bed—or someone else’s bed—and his leather jacket clung to his frame like it was painted on. He held a beer bottle loosely in one hand, his posture relaxed but his eyes sharp, scanning the room like a predator sizing up prey. There was an air of mystery about him, a quiet intensity that made the hairs on the back of Lena’s neck stand up.

“Well, damn,” Lena muttered under her breath, her gaze locking onto him. “Looks like the rumors might have a grain of truth after all.”

“Go get him, tiger,” Tessa urged, nudging her with an elbow. “Show him who runs this jungle.”

Lena didn’t need any encouragement. She slid off her stool with the grace of a panther, smoothing her skirt and tossing her hair over one shoulder. “Watch and learn, ladies. I’m about to give this so-called beast a lesson in submission.”

She sauntered across the bar, her heels clicking against the sticky floor with purpose. Heads turned as she passed, but Lena paid them no mind. Her focus was on Jace, who hadn’t noticed her yet—or so she thought. As she approached, his eyes flicked up to meet hers, and a slow, knowing smirk spread across his face. Oh, he’d been waiting for this.

“Well, well,” Lena purred, stopping just close enough to invade his personal space without touching him. She tilted her head, looking him up and down like she was appraising a piece of fine art—or a cut of meat. “You must be the new guy. Jace, right? I’ve heard some… interesting things about you.”

Jace’s smirk didn’t falter. He took a slow sip of his beer, his gaze never leaving hers. “And you must be Lena. I’ve heard some things too. Like how you think you own this place.”

Her laugh was sharp, cutting through the noise around them. “Think? Sweetheart, I don’t think—I *know*. This campus is my kingdom, and you’re just a tourist. But I’m feeling generous tonight, so I’ll give you a chance to impress me. What’ve you got?”

He raised a brow, clearly amused. “Impress you? Darlin’, I don’t perform on command. If you want a show, you’re gonna have to work for it.”

Lena stepped closer, her voice dropping to a sultry whisper as she leaned in, her breath brushing against his ear. “Oh, I don’t mind working for what I want. But let’s get one thing straight—I don’t chase. I hunt. And when I set my sights on something, it doesn’t stand a chance. So, tell me, ‘love beast,’ are you game… or just another pretty face with nothing to back it up?”

Jace’s eyes darkened, a spark of challenge igniting in them. He set his beer down on the counter, turning to face her fully. “Careful, Lena. You might not be ready for what you’re asking for. I don’t play nice, and I sure as hell don’t play by anyone’s rules.”

She smirked, unfazed, her hand brushing lightly against his chest as she straightened up. “Good. I’d hate for this to be boring. But let’s see if you can keep up before you start making promises. There’s an underground party tomorrow night—exclusive, wild, and definitely not for the faint of heart. Show up. Prove you’re worth my time. Or don’t, and I’ll know you’re just another overhyped rumor.”

He chuckled, low and dangerous, the sound sending a shiver down her spine despite herself. “Oh, I’ll be there. But don’t think for a second I’m doing this for you. I just wanna see the look on your face when you realize you’ve bitten off more than you can chew.”

Lena’s smile was pure venom, sweet and deadly. “Keep dreaming, newbie. I’ve got a bigger appetite than you could ever handle. See you tomorrow—if you’ve got the guts.”

With that, she turned on her heel and strode back to her table, leaving Jace staring after her with a mix of amusement and intrigue. Her posse erupted into cheers as she returned, but Lena’s mind was already racing. This wasn’t just a game anymore. It was a war—a steamy, dangerous battle of wills. And she intended to win, no matter how much heat it took to unleash the beast.

Tomorrow night, the real fun would begin.
