Chapter 1: Unwelcome Heat
The glass tower of Crescent Enterprises loomed over the city, a monument to Umair's unyielding dominance as the Alpha King and CEO. Inside the boardroom on the 45th floor, the air was thick with tension as Umair, all sharp suits and sharper eyes, commanded the attention of his executives. His voice, a low growl of authority, sliced through the room. 'I expect results, not excuses. If this merger fails, heads will roll.'
The double doors burst open with a force that rattled the glass walls. Rida, all wild energy and untamed beauty, stormed in, her school uniform slightly askew, her eyes wide with a mix of panic and something primal. Security guards scrambled behind her, their apologies tripping over each other. 'Sir, we tried to stop her—'
Umair's hand shot up, silencing them mid-sentence. His piercing gaze flicked to his PA. 'Cancel the meeting. Now.' The room emptied in seconds, the executives exchanging stunned glances as they filed out. The guards hesitated at the door, but a single, lethal look from Umair sent them scurrying.
Rida didn’t wait for an invitation. She crossed the room in a heartbeat, her scent masked by her magic, a trick she’d mastered in moments of distress. But Umair didn’t need scent to know her; he felt her in his bones, his mate. She climbed into his lap, her arms wrapping around his neck as silent tears soaked into his crisp white shirt. His hands instinctively settled on her hips, firm and possessive.
'What the hell happened, Rida?' His voice was a low rumble, laced with concern and a dangerous edge. 'You don’t just barge into my world like this unless the sky’s falling.'
She pulled back just enough to meet his gaze, her dark eyes shimmering with unshed tears and something hotter, wilder. 'School was a damn nightmare, Umair. Some idiot thought he could corner me, and then—' She bit her lip, her breath hitching. 'My first heat hit. Out of nowhere. I couldn’t control it. I hid my scent, but I needed you.'
His grip tightened, a growl vibrating in his chest. 'Someone touched you?' The question was a blade, sharp and deadly. 'I’ll rip their throat out.'
'No one touched me,' she snapped, her voice fierce despite the tremble. 'I handled it. But this heat—it’s burning me alive. I can’t think straight. I need—' She stopped, her cheeks flushing, but her eyes didn’t waver. She wasn’t some damsel; she was a storm, and she knew exactly what she wanted.
Umair’s smirk was pure sin, his hand sliding up her back, fingers tangling in her hair. 'You need your Alpha, don’t you? You think I can’t smell the want on you, even with your little magic trick?' His other hand gripped her thigh, pulling her closer until she could feel the hard evidence of his own desire pressing against her. 'I’ve got you, Rida. But you’ve got to say it. Tell me what you want.'
Her breath came in short, sharp pants, her body already reacting to his touch, wet heat pooling between her thighs. 'I want you, Umair. I want you to make this ache stop. I’m not some fragile thing—I’m your mate, and I’m done burning alone.'
His eyes darkened, a predator’s hunger flashing through them. 'Good girl,' he purred, his lips brushing her ear, sending shivers down her spine. 'Let’s see how loud I can make you howl.'
Their lips crashed together, a collision of need and power, her hands clawing at his shirt as his roamed her body, mapping every curve. The boardroom, with its sterile glass and steel, became their battlefield, the air thick with the promise of something explosive. Her hips rocked against him, desperate for friction, as his fingers teased the edge of her skirt, inching higher, ready to claim what was his.
