Chapter 1: Sparks in the Shadows
The Midnight Lounge was a den of velvet and vice, a place where the air was thick with secrets and the scent of expensive bourbon. Dim red lights cast sultry shadows over the crowd, and in the corner booth, Serena Voss sat like a queen on her throne. Her crimson dress hugged every curve of her athletic frame, the slit up her thigh daring anyone to look too long. She was a woman who commanded attention, a high-powered attorney by day and a predator of pleasure by night. Her sharp green eyes scanned the room, hunting for something—or someone—to ignite her evening.
Across the bar, Julian Drake leaned against the counter, his tailored suit doing little to hide the raw power of his frame. He was a man who built empires with his hands and broke hearts with a smirk. His dark gaze locked on Serena, and a slow, predatory grin spread across his face. He pushed off the bar, drink in hand, and sauntered over with the confidence of a man who knew he’d already won.
“Well, damn,” he drawled, stopping just close enough for her to catch the faint spice of his cologne. “If looks could kill, I’d be a dead man. Mind if I join you, or are you planning to slay me right here?”
Serena’s lips curled into a smirk as she crossed her legs, the fabric of her dress sliding higher. “Depends, Drake. Can you handle a woman who bites back, or are you just here to waste my time?”
He chuckled, low and rough, sliding into the booth across from her. “Oh, I like a challenge. And I’m betting you’re the kind who plays to win.”
“Always,” she shot back, leaning forward just enough to let him glimpse the edge of her lace bra. “But I don’t play with boys who can’t keep up. What’s your game, Julian? Come to flirt, or are you actually worth my night?”
Julian’s eyes darkened, his voice dropping to a growl. “I’m not here for games, Serena. I’m here to see if you’re as untamed as they say. Word is, you’re a force of nature—on and off the courtroom floor.”
She laughed, sharp and wicked, sipping her martini. “Flattery won’t get you far, but I’ll give you points for trying. Tell me, what’s a man like you doing sniffing around a woman like me? Looking for a thrill, or just a way to stroke that ego of yours?”
He leaned in, his breath warm against her ear as he whispered, “I’m looking to stroke a hell of a lot more than my ego, darling. And I think you’re just as curious to find out how hard I can deliver.”
Serena’s pulse quickened, but she didn’t flinch. Instead, she tilted her head, her lips brushing the edge of his jaw as she purred, “Big talk. But I don’t take promises—I take proof. Think you can back that up, or are you all bark and no bite?”
Julian’s hand slid under the table, resting just above her knee, his touch electric. “Name the place, Voss. I’ll show you exactly how I bite.”
Her eyes flashed with challenge as she stood, grabbing his tie and pulling him up with her. “Follow me, Drake. Let’s see if you’re worth the hype. My suite. Now.”
They moved through the crowd, the tension between them crackling like a live wire. By the time they reached the elevator of the upscale hotel attached to the lounge, Serena was already imagining the feel of his hands on her skin. The doors slid shut, and she shoved him against the wall, her body pressing into his as she hissed, “Don’t disappoint me, Julian. I’m not in the mood for half-measures.”
His hands gripped her hips, pulling her closer until she could feel how hard he already was. “Trust me, sweetheart,” he growled, his lips hovering over hers. “I’m about to give you everything you’ve been craving.”
The elevator dinged, and they stumbled out, barely making it to her suite before the door slammed shut behind them. Clothes were already starting to hit the floor, and Serena knew this was going to be a night of raw, unbridled heat—her pussy already wet with anticipation, his cock straining against his pants, both of them sweating with the promise of what was to come.
