Chapter 1: Aisle of Desire
The fluorescent lights of SaverMart buzzed overhead, casting a sterile glow over the endless rows of canned goods and cereal boxes. Ethan Reed, a 27-year-old stock clerk, was halfway through a grueling midnight shift, his broad shoulders slumping as he heaved another crate of soup cans onto the shelf. Sweat beaded on his brow, and his worn-out sneakers squeaked against the linoleum floor. He was overworked, underpaid, and utterly exhausted—until she walked in.
Her name was Raven, or at least that’s what her studded choker read in spiky silver letters. She strode into the store like she owned it, her purple hair cascading over one shoulder, black combat boots clomping with purpose. Her fishnet stockings hugged her toned legs, and her tight black corset left little to the imagination. Ethan’s eyes flicked up from his work, and his breath caught. She was a storm in human form, dark and electric, and she was heading straight for him.
“Yo, stock boy,” she called out, her voice a smoky drawl that could melt butter. She leaned against the shelf, one hip cocked, a smirk playing on her crimson lips. “You gonna help a girl out, or just stand there gawking?”
Ethan blinked, wiping his hands on his faded apron. “Uh, yeah, sure. What do you need?” His voice cracked slightly, betraying the sudden heat creeping up his neck.
Raven’s dark eyes gleamed with mischief as she twirled a strand of purple hair around her finger. “Something hard to reach. Top shelf. Think you can handle that, big guy?” Her tone was dripping with innuendo, and Ethan felt his pulse quicken.
He cleared his throat, trying to play it cool. “I handle heavy lifting all night. Top shelf’s no problem.” He grabbed the step stool, hyper-aware of her gaze burning into him as he climbed up. Her scent—something spicy and intoxicating—wafted toward him, making his head spin.
“Nice view from down here,” she purred, her eyes shamelessly roaming over his ass as he stretched to grab a jar of pickles. “You always this good with your hands, or am I just lucky?”
Ethan nearly dropped the jar, his face flushing. He turned, stepping down to face her, and found her closer than before, her chest nearly brushing his. “I, uh, I get the job done,” he stammered, but there was a spark in his tired eyes now, a challenge.
Raven’s smirk widened. “Oh, I bet you do. But let’s see if you can keep up.” She plucked the jar from his hand, her fingers lingering against his, sending a jolt through his body. Then, without breaking eye contact, she stepped even closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Meet me in the back storage room in five. Don’t make me wait, stock boy. I’m not a patient woman.”
Ethan’s heart pounded as she sauntered off, her hips swaying with every step. He was sweating now, not from the work, but from the raw, undeniable pull of her. His mind raced—should he follow? Hell, he’d be crazy not to. He was already hard just thinking about what she might have in store, his jeans tightening uncomfortably.
Five minutes later, he pushed open the storage room door, the dim light casting shadows over towering stacks of boxes. Raven was there, leaning against a pallet, one boot propped up casually. “Took you long enough,” she teased, her eyes glinting with hunger. “Thought I’d have to start without you.”
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world,” Ethan shot back, finding his confidence. He stepped closer, the air between them crackling. “So, what’s a girl like you doing in a dump like this at midnight?”
Raven chuckled, low and dangerous. “Looking for trouble. And I think I found it.” She reached out, grabbing his apron and pulling him in, her lips hovering just inches from his. “Question is, can you handle a little chaos?”
His hands found her waist, gripping the leather of her corset. “Try me,” he growled, and that was all the invitation she needed. Their mouths crashed together, hungry and fierce, her tongue demanding as much as his. She shoved him back against a stack of boxes, her nails raking down his chest, and he groaned into her mouth, already aching for more. Her body pressed against his, hot and unyielding, and he could feel how wet she was through the thin fabric between them, driving him wild.
This was just the beginning, and Ethan knew he was in way over his head—but damn, he was ready to drown.
