The apartment was dimly lit, the only source of light coming from the computer screen in front of her. She was completely engrossed in her MMORPG, her character battling monsters and exploring new lands. Her fingers moved swiftly over the keyboard, her eyes never leaving the screen.
He entered the room, yawning and rubbing his eyes. He walked over to the couch and sat down, watching her play for a moment. He leaned back and let out a deep sigh.
"Hey, how was your day?" he asked, trying to get her attention.
She gave him a brief summary, still focused on the game. He noticed her chat window was open and saw a stranger's name.
"Who's that?" he asked, pointing to the name.
"Just someone from the game," she said nonchalantly.
He pressed for more information, but she brushed him off. He started to feel a twinge of jealousy, but pushed it aside. He trusted her, after all.
Over the next few days, he noticed she was spending more and more time on the game, talking to the stranger more frequently. He started to feel more uncomfortable, but still didn't say anything.
One night, he saw her getting ready for bed, but she didn't seem tired. He asked what she was doing, and she said she was going to talk to the stranger some more.
He felt a pang of jealousy, but she reassured him it was just a game. He relented, but couldn't shake the feeling.
Over the next few weeks, he noticed she was becoming more and more distant. She was always on the game, always talking to the stranger. He confronted her about it, and she got defensive.
"You're just being paranoid," she said. "It's just a game."
He started to suspect she was hiding something from him. He decided to investigate. He found her secret chat logs with the stranger. He read through them, feeling a mix of shock and arousal.
He saw her sending the stranger sexy pictures, and his jealousy turned to anger. He confronted her about it, and she admitted she was flirting with the stranger.
"It's just a game, I would never actually cheat on you," she said.
He was torn between his love for her and his anger. He decided to give her a chance to prove herself.
"I'm going to hold you to that," he said, looking deep into her eyes.
She nodded, and they sat in silence for a moment. The tension between them was palpable.
"I love you," he said finally.
"I love you too," she replied, and they kissed.
The game may have begun, but the real battle was just starting.
