"Jake, honey, breakfast is ready," she called out, placing the plate of pancakes in front of him. He looked up at her, a little groggy, and rubbed his eyes.
"Thanks, mom," he mumbled, digging into the stack of pancakes.
Mrs. Thompson sat down across from him and looked at him with a serious expression. Jake raised an eyebrow at her, curious.
"Son, it's time we had a talk," she said, her voice firm but gentle.
Jake's eyes widened. "A talk? About what?" he asked, his mouth full of pancakes.
Mrs. Thompson took a deep breath. "About adult relationships," she said.
Jake's face turned bright red. "Mom, I'm only 18!" he exclaimed.
Mrs. Thompson chuckled. "I know, honey, but it's important to be prepared. Trust me, you'll thank me later."
Jake rolled his eyes. "Fine, let's get this over with," he said, trying to sound tough but failing.
Mrs. Thompson started to explain the basics of relationships and intimacy, using simple and straightforward language. Jake listened intently, his face turning redder as his mother delved into the more explicit details.
"Don't be embarrassed, honey. It's a natural part of life," Mrs. Thompson said, noticing Jake's discomfort.
Jake tried to hide his embarrassment by making a face at his mother. "Ew, mom, stop it! I don't want to think about you and dad like that," he said, half-joking.
Mrs. Thompson playfully insulted her son. "Oh, please. I'm sure you'll be just as good in bed as your father," she said, winking.
Jake's face turned even redder, but he couldn't help but laugh.
Mrs. Thompson finished her talk and Jake thanked her, albeit a little reluctantly. "Thanks, mom. I think I get it," he said.
Mrs. Thompson smiled. "I'm glad, honey. Now, go finish your breakfast before it gets cold," she said.
Jake started to eat his pancakes, still a little flustered but grateful for his mother's guidance. As he finished his breakfast, he couldn't help but think about what his mother had said. He knew she was right, it was important to be prepared for the future. But he couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed by the whole conversation.
As he got up from the table, he turned to his mother and said, "Thanks again, mom. I love you."
Mrs. Thompson smiled and hugged her son. "I love you too, Jake. Now, go have a great day at school."
Jake left for school, his mind still racing with thoughts of the birds and the bees. But he felt a little bit more prepared for what was to come. And he knew that no matter what, his mother would always be there to guide him.
