'Motorcycle Mama': How She Taught Him That Love Is About Nurturing, Not Providing

The Tomboy's Garage

Chapter One: The Adorable Protector

The Tomboy, grease coating her arms and face, glanced up from her motorcycle as the door to her garage creaked open. She saw her boyfriend, a teenager several years her junior, nervously approaching her.

He fidgeted and avoided eye contact as he spoke, "I'm worried you'll leave me. I can't be a provider or protector for you."

The Tomboy chuckled and wiped her hands on a rag. "You think I need a man to protect me? I can handle myself just fine." She stood up and towered over him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "But I appreciate the thought, you adorable little thing."

He blushed at the comment, but stood taller. "I just want to be able to take care of you."

The Tomboy ruffled his hair playfully. "You take care of me in other ways. Don't worry about it." She sat back down and continued working on her motorcycle. He watched her for a moment before asking, "How did you get into this anyway?"

The Tomboy grinned. "I've always been a bit of a tomboy. I prefer getting my hands dirty to sitting around and looking pretty." She looked up at him. "You don't mind, do you?"

He shook his head. "No, I think it's one of the things I like about you."

The Tomboy raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? And what else do you like about me?"

He stammers, trying to come up with an answer. The Tomboy laughed. "Don't be shy. I won't bite...hard."

He finally spits out, "I like how strong and independent you are. And how you make me feel protected, even though you don't need me to."

The Tomboy's expression softened. "That's sweet. I like that about you too." She wrapped her arms around him. "You may not be able to protect me in the traditional sense, but you protect me in other ways. And that's what matters."

He smiled, finally feeling at ease. "I'm glad. I just want to be good enough for you."

The Tomboy rolled her eyes. "You're more than good enough. Now, let me finish up this motorcycle before it gets too dark."

As he helped her clean up the garage, the Tomboy couldn't help but feel grateful for his presence in her life. He may not have been the typical protector, but he protected her heart and made her feel loved and appreciated. And that was all that mattered to her.
