As the last bell of the day rang through the hallway, Caleb found himself lingering in the classroom. He had missed an assignment in Ms. Hansel's class and knew he needed to talk to her before he left.
Ms. Hansel was a force to be reckoned with. She was a tall, confident woman with striking green eyes and a sharp tongue. Caleb had always been a little intimidated by her, but he couldn't deny that he was also drawn to her strength and intelligence.
He knocked on the door of her classroom, and she called out for him to enter. She was sitting at her desk, going through a stack of papers.
"Caleb, what can I do for you?" she asked, not looking up from her work.
"I missed the assignment for this week. I was wondering if I could get some extra credit to make up for it," he replied, shifting nervously from one foot to the other.
Ms. Hansel looked up at him and raised an eyebrow. "A try-hard, I see," she said, a playful insult.
Caleb wasn't one to back down from a challenge. "I prefer to think of it as determination," he shot back, a witty remark that made Ms. Hansel laugh.
Their banter continued for a few more minutes, light-hearted and playful. Caleb found himself relaxing in her presence, enjoying the back-and-forth.
Finally, Ms. Hansel spoke up. "I tell you what, Caleb. I'll help you catch up, but you have to meet me at my apartment. We can go over the material there, and I can give you the extra credit you need."
Caleb was surprised. He hesitated, unsure of what to do.
Ms. Hansel must have sensed his unease. "It's purely academic, Caleb. I wouldn't want you to get the wrong idea," she reassured him.
Caleb still felt unsure. "Will your husband be there?" he asked, trying to gauge the situation.
Ms. Hansel laughed. "I'm divorced, Caleb. It's just me and my cat," she replied.
Caleb felt relieved. He agreed to meet Ms. Hansel at her apartment, and she reminded him to bring his textbook.
As he left the classroom, Caleb couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. He had never been to a teacher's apartment before, and he couldn't shake the feeling that this was more than just an academic meeting.
Upon arrival, Ms. Hansel greeted him warmly, but with a stern look. "This is strictly academic, Caleb. I don't want any misunderstandings," she reminded him.
Caleb tried to hide his nervousness as he pulled out his textbook. Ms. Hansel was amused by his awkwardness and decided to lighten the mood.
"You're so innocent, Caleb," she said, a playful comment that made him blush.
Caleb wasn't one to be intimidated. He fired back with a witty remark, and the two of them engaged in a playful banter.
Ms. Hansel was impressed by Caleb's quick wit and suggested that they take a break. Caleb agreed, not realizing that this "break" would lead to something more....
