My First Howl: A Virgin's Wild Ride

### Chapter One: Unleashing Curiosity

Mia’s bedroom was a glorious mess, a testament to her chaotic brilliance. Posters of indie bands peeled at the edges, plastered over the faded floral wallpaper of her suburban childhood home. Textbooks lay sprawled across her unmade bed like casualties of war, their pages dog-eared and highlighted in neon hues. Her desk, a thrift-store find, was buried under a landslide of empty coffee mugs, sticky notes, and a laptop that had seen better days. The dim glow of the screen illuminated her face, casting shadows over her sharp cheekbones as she chewed on the end of a pencil, her dark brown eyes glinting with mischief.

She was supposed to be cramming for her sociology midterm. Supposed to. Instead, Mia had tumbled down the rabbit hole of the internet, her curiosity a wild beast she could never quite tame. One click led to another, and now she was staring at a forum thread titled “Forbidden Fantasies: Where Do You Draw the Line?” Her lips twitched into a smirk as she scrolled, her internal monologue running at a hundred miles an hour.

*Oh, this is gonna be good. People are freaks. I’m a freak for even reading this. What am I doing with my life?*

The thread was a goldmine of taboo confessions, each post more scandalous than the last. Mia’s cheeks flushed as she read about secret desires and hidden kinks, her laughter bubbling up in nervous bursts. And then she saw it—a post about intimacy with pets. Her jaw dropped, the pencil slipping from her mouth to clatter onto the desk.

“No. Freaking. Way,” she muttered, her voice a mix of horror and fascination. “Who even… why would… nope, nope, nope. I’m done. I’m logging off. Right now.”

But she didn’t. Her finger hovered over the mouse, her curiosity clawing at her like a cat demanding attention. *Just one more post. Just to see how weird it gets. For science. Yeah, that’s it. Sociology research. Totally legit.*

Her internal battle raged on—part of her screaming to close the tab and bleach her brain, the other part whispering, *What if? What’s wrong with wondering?* She groaned, burying her face in her hands, her messy black hair falling like a curtain over her embarrassment.

The shrill ring of her phone snapped her out of her spiral. A video call from Tara, her best friend and personal tormentor. Mia hesitated, then hit accept, propping the phone against a textbook. Tara’s face popped up, her platinum blonde hair pulled into a sleek ponytail, her green eyes sparkling with the kind of mischief that always spelled trouble.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t my favorite hermit,” Tara drawled, her lips curling into a smirk. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost, babe. Or something worse. Spill.”

Mia rolled her eyes, trying to play it cool, but her cheeks were still traitorously pink. “I’m fine. Just… studying. You know, being a responsible adult.”

Tara snorted, leaning closer to the camera, her piercing gaze pinning Mia in place. “Bullshit. You’ve got that guilty look. The one you get when you’re up to no good. What is it this time? Pirating movies? Stalking your ex’s new girlfriend? Or—oh my god, are you on one of those weird forums again?”

Mia’s mouth opened, then snapped shut. Damn it, Tara knew her too well. “I’m not… I mean, it’s not… ugh, fine! I stumbled on some weird stuff, okay? Happy now?”

Tara’s grin was downright feral. “Weird how? Like, kinky weird? Or ‘I need to call the FBI’ weird? Because I’m here for either, but I’ll need popcorn for the second one.”

Mia groaned, dragging a hand down her face. “It’s… kinky weird. Like, super taboo kinky. I don’t even know how I got there. One minute I’m looking up study tips, the next I’m reading about people who… uh… get freaky with their pets.”

There was a beat of silence before Tara burst into laughter, the sound so loud Mia winced and turned down the volume. “Oh my god, Mia! You little perv! What, are you taking notes for a future career as a dog whisperer? ‘Sit, stay, and… seduce’?”

“Shut up!” Mia hissed, but she couldn’t help the giggle that escaped. “I’m not into it! I’m just… curious. Like, how does someone even get to that point? It’s insane. And also, ew. But also… what if?”

Tara’s eyebrows shot up, her smirk sharpening. “What if? Oh, honey, you’re treading on dangerous ground. Next thing I know, you’ll be telling me you’ve got a crush on Max.”

Mia’s face went beet red at the mention of her family’s golden retriever, who was currently sprawled across the hallway just outside her door, snoring like a freight train. “Don’t even go there, Tara. That’s disgusting. I’m not—I mean, I’m not even thinking about that. I’m just saying, the human mind is wild, okay? I’m allowed to be curious without acting on it.”

“Mm-hmm,” Tara hummed, her tone dripping with skepticism. “Sure, babe. Keep telling yourself that. But I’m daring you right now—go give Max a little wink and see if he blushes. Bet you ten bucks he’s into you. Those big puppy eyes? Total flirt.”

“Tara!” Mia squeaked, her voice climbing an octave. “You’re the worst. I hate you. I’m hanging up.”

“No, you’re not,” Tara shot back, her grin unwavering. “Because you love me, and you know I’m right. You’ve got a wild side, Mia. You just keep it caged up like some sad little zoo animal. Let it out. Explore. I’m not saying you gotta go full beast-mode, but live a little. What’s the worst that could happen?”

Mia bit her lip, her mind racing. Tara had a point—she always did. Mia was fiercely independent, a force of nature when it came to her studies or standing up for herself, but her personal life? A total mess. She was twenty, a virgin, and painfully awkward when it came to anything remotely sexual. Maybe Tara was right. Maybe she needed to push her boundaries, even if just a little.

“Fine,” Mia said finally, her voice firm despite the butterflies in her stomach. “I’ll… explore. But not like that. I’m not a complete lunatic. I just mean I’ll stop being such a prude. Maybe I’ll read a spicy book or something. Baby steps.”

Tara clapped her hands, her laughter ringing through the phone. “That’s my girl! Start small, but don’t be surprised if you end up calling me in a week like, ‘Tara, I’ve joined a cult and I’m in love with a labradoodle.’ I’ll support you, babe. I’m ride or die.”

“You’re insufferable,” Mia muttered, but she was smiling despite herself. “I’ve gotta go. I have actual studying to do. Unlike some people.”

“Pfft, lies. You’re gonna go stare at Max and wonder if he’s your soulmate. Don’t deny it. Night, perv!” Tara blew a kiss at the camera before hanging up, leaving Mia in stunned silence.

She leaned back in her chair, her gaze drifting to the door where Max’s golden fur was just visible through the crack. He let out a loud snore, one paw twitching in his sleep, completely oblivious to the chaos in Mia’s head. She burst out laughing, the sound sharp and bright in the quiet room.

“Oh my god, I’ve lost it,” she said to herself, shaking her head. “I’m actually looking at my dog like he’s a dating prospect. What is wrong with me?”

But as she closed her laptop and pushed the textbooks aside, a tiny, rebellious part of her couldn’t help but wonder. Not about Max—god, no—but about the edges of desire, the forbidden corners of her own mind. Maybe Tara was right. Maybe it was time to stop playing it safe.

With a final glance at the sleeping retriever, Mia muttered, “Don’t get any ideas, buddy. I’m crazy, but I’m not *that* crazy.”

Yet.
