Power Play: Intern's Indulgence

Power Play: Intern's Indulgence

Chapter 1: The Unspoken Rule

The office of Blackwood & Associates buzzed with the kind of energy that could only be described as predatory. Skyscraper windows framed the city below, a jungle of steel and ambition, mirroring the atmosphere within. At the center of it all was Mia Voss, the new intern, a 25-year-old with a sharp mind and sharper tongue, who’d landed the gig through sheer grit and a resume that screamed overachiever. Her first day, however, was about to take a turn she hadn’t anticipated.

Mia adjusted her tailored blazer, her heels clicking assertively against the marble floor as she approached the executive floor. She’d been summoned by none other than Cassandra Blackwood, the firm’s ruthless CEO, known for her icy demeanor and unrelenting standards. Mia wasn’t intimidated—yet.

'Voss,' Cassandra’s voice sliced through the air as Mia entered the glass-walled office. The older woman, mid-40s with a presence that could command armies, didn’t look up from her tablet. 'You’re late. I don’t tolerate tardiness.'

Mia smirked, unfazed. 'Traffic’s a bitch, Ms. Blackwood. But I’m here now, and I’m all yours. What’s the play?'

Cassandra’s eyes flicked up, a glint of something dangerous in them. 'Oh, you’ll learn the play soon enough. This firm operates on... unique terms. You’re not just here to file papers or fetch coffee. You’re here to serve. In every capacity.'

Mia’s brow arched, her pulse quickening, but not from fear. 'Serve? I’m not some glorified maid. I’m here to climb, not kneel.'

Cassandra stood, her silhouette cutting a formidable figure against the cityscape. She rounded the desk, her gaze predatory as she closed the distance. 'You misunderstand, Voss. This isn’t about submission. It’s about power. You give, you take, and you win. Everyone in this office plays the game. And starting today, you’re the wildcard.'

Mia’s lips curled into a sly grin. 'So, what? I’m supposed to charm my way to the top? Spreadsheets and seduction?'

'Exactly,' Cassandra purred, her voice dropping to a sultry whisper as she leaned in, her breath hot against Mia’s ear. 'And trust me, darling, you’ll enjoy every second of it. The question is, can you handle the heat?'

Mia didn’t flinch, her own voice dripping with defiance. 'Try me. I’ve never backed down from a challenge. Or a good time.'

Cassandra’s smile was wicked as she stepped back, gesturing to the door. 'Good. Then let’s start with a test. My lead attorney, Damien Holt, needs... assistance. He’s in the conference room. Don’t keep him waiting.'

Mia’s heart raced as she strode down the hall, her mind buzzing with the implications. The conference room was dimly lit, the long oak table reflecting the city lights. Damien Holt stood at the far end, a man in his late 30s with a jawline that could cut glass and eyes that screamed trouble. He was loosening his tie, his shirt sleeves rolled up to reveal forearms that hinted at raw strength.

'Heard you’re the new blood,' Damien said, his voice a low growl as he sized her up. 'Cassandra says you’ve got potential. I say, prove it.'

Mia crossed her arms, her stance bold. 'I don’t do dog and pony shows, Holt. If you’ve got something to say, spit it out. Or are you just here to waste my time?'

Damien chuckled, stepping closer, the air between them crackling. 'Oh, I’ve got plenty to say. But I’d rather show you. This office has rules, Voss. Unspoken ones. You’re here to service needs—any needs. And right now, I’ve got a need that’s been aching all damn day.'

Mia’s eyes narrowed, but a smirk played on her lips. 'Is that so? Well, I’m not some toy to be played with. If I’m in, it’s on my terms. You want something from me? You’d better make it worth my while.'

Damien’s gaze darkened, his voice husky. 'Trust me, I’ll make it worth every second. But you’ve gotta meet me halfway. So, what’s it gonna be?'

Mia stepped forward, closing the gap, her body inches from his. She could feel the heat radiating off him, her own pulse hammering as she tilted her head, her lips brushing near his ear. 'Let’s see how hard you can play, Holt. But don’t think for a second I’m not in control.'

His hand slid to her waist, pulling her closer, and she felt the evidence of his desire pressing against her. Her breath hitched, but her eyes burned with challenge. The tension was electric, their bodies poised on the edge of something explosive, as the room seemed to shrink around them, the city outside forgotten.
