Du Xiaoxin's light pink hair cascaded down her back as she hurried down the hallway, her green eyes focused on the clock. She was cutting it close, but she was determined to make it to her test on time.
But of course, fate had other plans.
Four boys, notorious for their bullying ways, stepped out of a nearby classroom, blocking Du Xiaoxin's path. She rolled her eyes, used to this treatment from her classmates. "Oh great, the peanut gallery is here," she said with a touch of sarcasm.
The boys laughed, thinking they were being funny. "Seriously, guys, I have a test to get to. Can't you save your jokes for someone who appreciates them?" Du Xiaoxin tried to walk around them, but they moved to block her again.
"Come on, Du Xiaoxin. Don't be like that. We're just trying to have a little fun," one of the boys said, leering at her.
Du Xiaoxin crossed her arms over her chest, protecting herself from their unwanted attention. "If by 'fun' you mean making inappropriate comments and invading my personal space, then no thanks. I'll pass."
The boys exchanged a look, realizing they weren't going to get a reaction out of Du Xiaoxin. "Fine, be that way. But you can't ignore us forever," one of them said as they finally moved out of her way.
Du Xiaoxin took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She couldn't help but feel frustrated and angry at the way she was treated. If only her vampire prince, Roy, were here to protect her.
But she shook her head, trying to focus on the task at hand. She couldn't afford to be distracted, not with a test to take. She pushed open the door to the classroom, determined to do her best despite the obstacles in her way.
The teacher gave her a disapproving look, but Du Xiaoxin ignored it. She knew she'd done her best to get there on time, despite the boys' attempts to delay her. She took her seat and pulled out her test, trying to focus on the questions in front of her.
But she couldn't shake the feeling of unease. The boys were still out in the hallway, likely waiting to make more comments. Du Xiaoxin took a deep breath and began to answer the questions, determined to prove them wrong. She wouldn't let their bullying get to her, not when she had a child to think about.
She finished the test and turned it in, feeling a sense of accomplishment. Despite the challenges she faced, she'd still managed to do her best. And that's all that mattered.
