Rekindled Flames: A Dangerous Liaison

Chapter 1: The Unexpected Reunion

The fluorescent lights of the supermarket cast a sterile glow over the aisles, but the air crackled with something electric when Parul’s eyes locked with Karthik’s. It had been over a decade since their school days, yet the smirk on his face was as devilishly familiar as ever. Parul, now a poised woman of 32, stood tall in her tailored blazer, her sharp gaze cutting through the mundane hum of grocery shopping.

“Well, damn, if it isn’t Parul Sharma, the queen of debate club. Still breaking hearts with that stare?” Karthik drawled, leaning against a shelf of canned goods, his voice dripping with playful mockery.

Parul arched a perfectly sculpted brow, her lips curling into a sly smile. “Karthik Malhotra. Still charming your way through life, I see. Didn’t think you’d recognize me after all these years.”

“Recognize you? Babe, I’d spot that fire in your eyes from a mile away. So, what’s new? Still ruling the world?” His gaze roamed over her, lingering just a second too long, igniting a flicker of heat she hadn’t felt in years.

She laughed, a low, throaty sound, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “Getting married next month, actually. And you? Still the eternal bachelor?”

Karthik’s grin widened, a predator’s glint in his eyes. “Some things never change. Congrats on the wedding, though. How about we catch up? Coffee at your place? I’m dying to hear about the lucky bastard who tamed you.”

Parul hesitated, her mind screaming caution, but her body hummed with a dangerous curiosity. “Fine. But don’t think you’re getting any dirt on me, Malhotra. I’m still the one who wins every argument.”

Later that afternoon, her sleek apartment buzzed with tension as they sat across from each other, coffee mugs steaming on the glass table. The conversation flowed easily, laced with sharp banter and old memories, but the undercurrent of something forbidden pulsed stronger with every passing minute.

“You know, Parul, I always wondered what it’d be like to see you lose control,” Karthik said, his voice low, leaning closer, his breath warm against her cheek. “All that fire… bet it burns even hotter in private.”

Her eyes narrowed, but a flush crept up her neck. “Careful, Karthik. I’m not some naive schoolgirl anymore. I bite back.”

“Oh, I’m counting on it,” he shot back, his hand brushing her thigh under the table, bold and unapologetic. Her breath hitched, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she leaned in, her lips hovering just inches from his.

“You’re playing a dangerous game,” she warned, her voice a husky whisper, her fingers curling into his shirt. “I don’t play nice.”

“Good. Neither do I,” he growled, closing the distance, his mouth crashing into hers with a hunger that had been simmering for years. Their tongues battled for dominance, her hands gripping his hair as his slid down to her ass, pulling her onto his lap. She could feel him, hard and insistent against her, and a wicked thrill shot through her.

“Fuck, Parul, you’re driving me insane,” he muttered against her neck, his teeth grazing her skin as she ground against him, her body already wet with anticipation. Her blouse was half-unbuttoned, his hands roaming her curves with a possessive edge, and she knew there was no turning back from this inferno they’d ignited.
