Chapter 1: A Chance Encounter
The sultry heat of Nashville clung to Alexis like a second skin as she strutted down Broadway, her heels clicking with purpose against the pavement. At 5’2”, she was a firecracker of a woman—curves in all the right places, dark hair cascading over her shoulders, and a smirk that could stop traffic. She was in town for a music conference, but her mind was elsewhere, restless with a hunger she couldn’t quite name. Ten years had passed since high school, since her first love, Sean, had slipped through her fingers. She hadn’t thought of him in ages… until now.
She stopped at a crowded bar, the twang of country music spilling onto the street, and that’s when she saw him. Sean. Tall as sin at 6’3”, his broad shoulders filled out a black leather jacket, tattoos peeking from under rolled-up sleeves. His jawline could cut glass, and those piercing green eyes locked onto hers from across the room like a predator spotting prey. Her breath hitched. He hadn’t changed a bit—except now, he was pure, raw sex appeal.
“Well, damn, if it ain’t Alexis Monroe,” Sean drawled, his voice a low rumble as he sauntered over, a whiskey glass in hand. “You still look like trouble on two legs.”
Alexis arched a brow, crossing her arms to push her cleavage just a tad higher. “And you still look like a walking bad decision, Sean Carter. What’s it been, a decade? You stalking me now?”
He chuckled, the sound dark and delicious. “Nah, darlin’. Just fate fuckin’ with us. I’m here on a job—tattoo convention. But I ain’t complainin’ about this little reunion. You still got that fire in you, don’t ya?”
She stepped closer, the scent of his cologne—woodsy, with a hint of danger—making her pulse race. “More than you can handle, cowboy. Question is, can you keep up? Or are you all talk now?”
Sean’s grin turned wicked, his gaze dropping to her lips. “Oh, I’ve got plenty to back it up. Wanna test that theory, Lexi? For old times’ sake?”
Her nickname on his tongue sent a shiver down her spine, and she felt that familiar heat pooling low in her belly. She wasn’t some shy girl anymore; she was a woman who knew what she wanted. And right now, she wanted him. Bad. “Careful what you wish for, Sean. I play to win.”
He leaned in, his breath hot against her ear. “Good. ‘Cause I don’t play nice.”
The air between them crackled, electric and heavy with unspoken promises. Alexis grabbed his hand, her grip firm, and tugged him toward the back of the bar, past the drunk tourists and neon lights, until they found a shadowed corner near the bathrooms. Her heart pounded as she pushed him against the wall, her petite frame commanding his towering one.
“You think you can just waltz back into my life and get me all hot and bothered?” she purred, her fingers trailing down his chest, feeling the hard muscle beneath. “You’ve got some nerve.”
Sean’s hands found her hips, pulling her flush against him. She could feel him already, hard and ready through his jeans, and it made her smirk wider. “Seems like you’re the one gettin’ bothered, Lexi. I can feel how bad you want this.”
“Shut up and kiss me before I change my mind,” she snapped, her voice dripping with challenge.
He didn’t hesitate, crashing his lips into hers with a hunger that matched her own. The kiss was messy, desperate, all teeth and tongue, a decade of pent-up tension exploding between them. Her hands fisted in his jacket as his slid down to grip her ass, squeezing with intent. She moaned into his mouth, already wet and aching, her body screaming for more.
“Fuck, Lexi,” he growled against her lips, his voice rough with need. “You’re gonna be the death of me.”
“Good,” she shot back, panting as she nipped at his jaw. “Now let’s see if that cock of yours is as good as I remember.”
His eyes darkened, a promise of pure, unbridled chaos, as he spun her around, pressing her against the wall. The heat of him, the weight of his desire, had her dripping with anticipation. This was just the beginning, and Nashville was about to get a whole lot hotter.
