Renee's Reckoning

Renee's Reckoning

Chapter 1: The Spark of Defiance

Renee adjusted her tight black dress in the mirror, her curves unapologetically on display. She wasn’t the waif-thin type society drooled over, and she didn’t give a damn. Her body was a weapon, a statement, and tonight, she was ready to wield it. Rick, her boyfriend of three years, had grown complacent—too comfortable with their routine, too smug in assuming she’d always be his. She smirked at her reflection, her dark eyes glinting with mischief. ‘Not tonight, sweetheart,’ she thought.

They were at a dimly lit bar, the kind with sticky floors and a jukebox that hadn’t been updated since the ‘90s. Rick was nursing a beer, droning on about his fantasy football league, while Renee’s gaze wandered. That’s when she saw him—Jaxon, all sharp jawline and smoldering intensity, leaning against the bar like he owned the place. He caught her eye and didn’t look away. A slow, predatory smile curled his lips, and Renee felt a heat coil low in her belly.

‘Bored already?’ Jaxon’s voice cut through the hum of the bar as he approached, his tone dripping with challenge. He didn’t even glance at Rick, who was now squinting at him like a confused puppy.

Renee tilted her head, her full lips curving into a smirk. ‘Depends. You got something better to offer than lukewarm beer and bad stats?’

Jaxon chuckled, a low, dangerous sound. ‘Oh, I’ve got plenty. Question is, can you handle it, or are you just window shopping?’

Rick finally piped up, his voice tinged with irritation. ‘Hey, man, she’s with me.’

Renee turned to Rick, her eyes flashing. ‘Am I? ‘Cause last I checked, I don’t wear a collar. Maybe I’m in the mood to play with someone who doesn’t treat me like a goddamn armchair.’

Rick’s face reddened, but Jaxon just grinned, stepping closer. His scent—leather and something dark, musky—hit her like a punch. ‘I like a woman who knows what she wants,’ he murmured, his voice a velvet blade. ‘And I’m betting you’ve got a list longer than his excuses.’

Renee laughed, sharp and unapologetic. ‘You’re not wrong. But I don’t play games with boys who can’t keep up. You think you’ve got the stamina for me?’

Jaxon’s eyes darkened, his gaze raking over her like a physical touch. ‘Sweetheart, I’ll have you sweating and panting before you can even beg for more.’

Her pulse raced, a delicious thrill shooting through her. She leaned in, her breath hot against his ear. ‘Big talk. Let’s see if that cock of yours is as hard as your attitude.’

Rick sputtered, but Renee ignored him, her focus locked on Jaxon. The air between them crackled, charged with raw, unspoken hunger. She could feel herself getting wet, the anticipation dripping through her like honey. Jaxon’s hand brushed her hip, a subtle claim, and she knew there was no turning back. They were seconds from exploding, and she was ready to burn.
