Riding the News: A Texan Cowboy and a British Saint's Sinful Reunion

Chapter One: The Interview

Mason's fingers flew across the keyboard as he typed up his latest story, the clacking of the keys the only sound in the otherwise quiet newsroom. He was so absorbed in his work that he didn't notice his editor, Sarah, approach his desk until she was standing right in front of him.

"Mason, I've got a new assignment for you," she said, her voice breaking through his concentration.

He looked up at her, curiosity piqued. "Sure thing, what's the story?"

Sarah handed him a file. "We've got a new resident in town, a British man named Smith. I want you to interview him and write a feature on him."

Mason raised an eyebrow. "That's it? A profile on some random guy?"

Sarah shrugged. "That's all I've got for now. But I have a feeling there's more to this guy than meets the eye. See what you can find out."

Mason took the file and flipped it open, scanning the contents. There wasn't much information, just a basic biography and a headshot. He smirked. "This is going to be easier than I thought."

Sarah rolled her eyes. "Just don't screw it up, Mason. I'm counting on you."

Mason nodded as Sarah walked away, already planning his approach for the interview. He had a feeling this Smith character was going to be a snooze fest, but he was determined to find something interesting to write about.

A few hours later, there was a knock on the newsroom door. Mason looked up from his desk and saw a pale, delicate-looking man standing in the doorway. This must be Smith, he thought. He stood up and walked over to greet him.

"Mr. Smith, I'm Mason. It's nice to meet you," he said, extending his hand for a shake.

Smith hesitated, looking at Mason's red hair and muscular build with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. Mason couldn't help but find it amusing.

"Don't worry, I don't bite... unless you want me to," he said, winking.

Smith raised an eyebrow, but Mason just chuckled. "Just kidding, have a seat."

As they began the interview, Mason quickly realized that Smith was about as exciting as a wet sponge. He was stiff and formal, and Mason could tell he was uncomfortable. So, he decided to loosen him up with some playful insults.

"You know, Smith, you're about as exciting as a wet sponge. You need to liven up a bit," he said.

Smith looked taken aback, but Mason continued. "Come on, I'm just teasing. You're in Texas now, you gotta learn to have some fun."

To his surprise, Smith cracked a small smile. Mason took that as a win.

As they continued talking, Mason learned more about Smith's strong faith and conservative values. Mason, who considered himself an atheist and a liberal, couldn't help but roll his eyes at some of Smith's views. But, he had to admit, Smith was diplomatic and respectful of others' beliefs.

"I understand that you may not agree with me, but I believe that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs," Smith said at one point.

Mason was impressed. "You know, Smith, you're not as boring as I thought. You've got some fire in you after all."

Smith smiled. "I'm glad you think so."

Mason couldn't help but feel a spark of attraction towards Smith. He was different from anyone he had ever met before. And, despite their differences, they seemed to have a connection.

As the interview came to a close, Mason couldn't help but feel excited about the story he was going to write. He had a feeling it was going to be a good one.

"I'll be in touch, Mr. Smith. It was nice meeting you," he said, shaking Smith's hand.

Smith nodded. "Likewise, Mason. I look forward to reading your article."

Mason watched as Smith walked out of the newsroom, already thinking about their next meeting. He couldn't wait to see where this story would take him.
