Chapter 1: Smoke and Sparks
Barbara stormed out of the dorm, her boots slamming against the cracked linoleum as the echo of her latest screaming match with Fötzel reverberated in her skull. That smug bastard had the audacity to call her 'overdramatic' after forgetting their anniversary—again. Her blood boiled, and the cool night air did little to temper the fire in her chest as she pushed through the heavy door into the courtyard.
'Hey, Babs! Long time no see!' a familiar voice called out, cutting through her rage like a knife. She turned to see Roman, her childhood troublemaker buddy, leaning against the brick wall with a lopsided grin. Beside him stood a stranger, all sharp angles and dark eyes, exuding a dangerous kind of charm. Roman gestured to him. 'This is Gianluca. We’re heading up to the roof for a little… relaxation. Care to join?'
Barbara’s lips curled into a smirk as she sized up Gianluca, who tipped his head with a look that could melt steel. 'Relaxation, huh? What kind, exactly?' she shot back, crossing her arms, her tone dripping with challenge.
Gianluca’s grin was pure sin. 'The kind that makes you forget every asshole who’s ever crossed you. Got a lighter, or are you just gonna stand there looking pretty and pissed off?'
She laughed, sharp and biting, already feeling the weight of Fötzel’s bullshit lifting. 'Oh, I’ve got fire, alright. Lead the way, boys. Let’s see if you can keep up.'
The trio climbed the rickety fire escape, the city lights sprawling beneath them as they reached the roof. Roman sparked up a joint, the sweet, earthy scent curling into the air as Gianluca passed her a flask. 'To forgetting idiots,' he toasted, his voice low and suggestive.
Barbara took a swig, the burn of cheap whiskey matching the heat building in her core. 'To making them regret ever fucking with me,' she countered, her eyes locking with Gianluca’s. There was a dare in his gaze, one she wasn’t about to back down from.
Roman chuckled, exhaling a plume of smoke. 'Damn, Babs, you’re still the same wildfire I remember. Fötzel must be shitting himself right now, knowing you’re out here with us.'
'Good,' she snapped, her voice laced with venom. 'Let him stew. I’m done playing nice.' She took another hit, the buzz loosening her edges as she leaned closer to Gianluca, her thigh brushing his. 'So, tell me, hotshot. What’s a guy like you doing hanging with Roman? Looking for trouble?'
Gianluca’s eyes darkened, his hand grazing her knee with deliberate intent. 'Trouble’s my middle name, sweetheart. And you look like you’ve got plenty to share.'
Her breath hitched, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she leaned in, her voice a husky whisper. 'Careful. I bite back.'
Roman laughed, watching the tension crackle between them. 'Fuck, you two are gonna set this roof on fire. Should I leave you to it, or am I invited to this party?'
Barbara turned to him, her grin feral. 'Stick around, Roman. I’ve got enough heat for both of you.' Her words hung heavy, a promise and a threat, as she felt the first stirrings of something wild and reckless. She could already imagine the look on Fötzel’s face if he caught wind of this—and damn, did she want to make him pay.
Gianluca’s hand slid higher, his fingers teasing the edge of her skirt, while Roman’s gaze dropped to her lips, hungry and unapologetic. The air was thick with anticipation, her pulse racing as she realized just how far she was willing to go to burn away the memory of that idiot downstairs. She was ready to let these two unravel her, to take control in a way that would leave no room for regret.
And as Gianluca’s lips hovered just inches from hers, whispering, 'Let’s see how loud you can get,' she knew this night was about to explode.
