Chapter 1: The Knock of Redemption
The rain battered against the old Victorian house in Salt Lake City, each drop a drumbeat echoing the frantic pulse in Caleb’s chest. He stood on Drew’s porch, his leather jacket slick with water, his dark hair plastered to his forehead. Three months without her had been a purgatory of his own making. He’d walked away from her, from the love that scorched his soul, all because he couldn’t bend to the faith she held so dear. But now, he was ready to kneel—literally and figuratively.
He knocked, the sound sharp against the quiet night. The door creaked open, and there she was. Drew. Her auburn hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face that could command armies with a single glance. Her emerald eyes widened, then narrowed, a storm brewing behind them.
“Caleb,” she said, her voice a low, dangerous purr. “What the hell are you doing here? Thought you’d rather burn than bow to my beliefs.”
He smirked, stepping closer, the scent of her lavender perfume hitting him like a punch. “I’ve been burning, Drew. Every damn day without you. I’m here to convert. To be yours. Completely.”
Her lips parted, a flicker of shock softening her steely gaze. “You’re serious? You’d join the fold for me?”
“I’d join the devil himself if it meant having you again,” he growled, his voice thick with need. “I can’t live without you. I won’t.”
Drew’s breath hitched, and in a flash, she grabbed his collar, yanking him inside. The door slammed shut as she pressed herself against him, her curves molding to his hard frame. “You’ve got no idea what you’ve just signed up for, cowboy,” she whispered, her lips brushing his ear. “But I’m gonna make damn sure you never regret it.”
Their mouths crashed together, a collision of hunger and history. Her tongue was a weapon, sharp and demanding, and he met every thrust with equal ferocity. She shoved him against the wall, her hands clawing at his jacket, peeling it off like she was unwrapping a long-awaited gift.
“Missed this,” she panted, her fingers digging into his chest through his shirt. “Missed you breaking me in all the right ways.”
“Gonna do more than break you, darlin’,” Caleb rasped, his hands gripping her hips, pulling her flush against the growing bulge in his jeans. “Gonna worship you until you forget how to pray.”
She laughed, a wicked, throaty sound that sent heat straight to his cock. “Big words. Let’s see if that mouth of yours is still as good at sinning as I remember.”
With a smirk, she dropped to her knees, her eyes locked on his as she tugged at his belt. The clink of metal was a siren call, and Caleb’s breath grew ragged. He was already hard, aching for her, and the sight of her—fierce, unyielding Drew—kneeling yet still in total control, was enough to make him lose it right then.
But this wasn’t just a reunion. It was a reclaiming. And as her fingers freed him, as her lips hovered just inches from where he needed her most, Caleb knew they were about to ignite a fire no holy water could extinguish.
