Samantha's Pendant of Cruel Command

### Chapter One: The Trap is Set

The elevator ride up to Samantha’s upscale apartment felt like a slow ascent into a storm I couldn’t predict. My nerves buzzed with a cocktail of curiosity and a faint hope for reconciliation. We hadn’t spoken in months, not since the messy breakup that left us both raw and spiteful. Her sudden invitation for a “friendly chat” had seemed like an olive branch—or at least, I’d wanted to believe it was. But as the polished brass doors slid open on the penthouse floor, a prickle of unease danced down my spine.

I knocked on her door, the sound echoing in the silent hallway. It swung open almost instantly, and there she was—Samantha, framed in the doorway like a predator posing as prey. Her smile was saccharine, too sweet to be genuine, and her arms opened wide for a hug that felt more like a trap. “Darling, you made it!” she purred, her voice dripping with honey as she pulled me in. Her newly enhanced curves pressed against me, a deliberate showcase of her transformation. I stiffened, awkwardly aware of every inch of her that hadn’t been there before.

“Uh, hey, Sam,” I mumbled, extricating myself as gracefully as I could. “You’ve... changed.”

She laughed, a tinkling sound that didn’t reach her eyes. “Oh, honey, you have no idea. Come in, come in. Let’s catch up.” She stepped aside, gesturing into her apartment with a flourish. Her tone was all faux sweetness, but there was a glint in her emerald eyes—something sharp, calculating, that I couldn’t quite place.

I followed her inside, my sneakers silent on the polished marble floor. The apartment was dimly lit, the kind of ambiance that screamed seduction rather than a casual chat. Scented candles flickered on every surface, their warm glow casting long shadows across the sleek furniture. The air was heavy with jasmine and something muskier, wrapping around me like a velvet glove. It felt... off. Too intimate. Too staged.

“Drink?” Samantha offered, already gliding toward a crystal decanter on the bar cart. Her silk robe swished with every step, the deep burgundy fabric clinging to her like a second skin. She didn’t wait for my answer, pouring two generous glasses of amber liquid with a practiced hand.

“Sure,” I said, settling onto the plush leather couch. “So, what’s this about, Sam? You sounded... urgent on the phone.”

She turned, drinks in hand, and sauntered over with a sway that was pure theater. “Oh, can’t a girl just miss her old flame?” she teased, handing me the glass. Her fingers brushed mine, lingering just a second too long. “Besides, I’ve got something to show off.” She tapped a pendant hanging between her breasts, the dark stone catching the candlelight with an eerie shimmer. “Isn’t it divine? A little trinket with... unique charm.”

I nodded, barely glancing at it. “Looks expensive. Where’d you get it?”

Her lips curled into a smirk as she leaned back, crossing her legs with deliberate slowness. “Oh, a gift from someone who knows the value of power. But let’s not talk shop. Let’s talk us.” She sipped her drink, her gaze pinning me in place. “Remember the old days, sweetheart? Back when you couldn’t keep your hands off me? Before you... traded up.”

I shifted uncomfortably, the jab hitting harder than I cared to admit. “Sam, come on. That’s not how it was. We just... grew apart.”

“Grew apart?” She arched a perfectly sculpted brow, her voice taking on a playful, mocking edge. “Is that what you call dumping me for little miss perfect? What’s her name again—Lorelei? Bet she doesn’t know half the things I do about you.”

I took a swig of the drink, the burn doing little to ease the tension knotting my shoulders. “Can we not do this? I thought we were past the petty stuff.”

Samantha’s smile tightened, her tone dipping into something darker, velvet over steel. “Petty? Oh, darling, you have no idea what I’m past. But tell me, how is Lorelei? Does she know about that little... indiscretion of yours from last summer? Or should I say, indiscretions?”

My stomach churned. How the hell did she know about that? “Sam, stop. I don’t know what you’re playing at, but I’m not here for games.”

She leaned forward, her eyes glinting with something feral. “Oh, but I am. Let me pour us another round.” Her movements were deliberate, almost predatory, as she refilled my glass without asking. She watched me with an unsettling intensity, like a cat toying with a cornered mouse.

I took the drink, more to have something to do with my hands than out of want. “Look, maybe this was a bad idea. I should—”

“Don’t be silly,” she cut me off, her voice sharp now, a command wrapped in silk. “I’ve got something special to show you. Wait right here.” She stood, her robe slipping just enough to reveal a flash of thigh as she excused herself. “I’ll be back in a moment.”

She disappeared down the hallway, leaving me alone in the living room. A strange heaviness settled over my limbs, my body feeling oddly sluggish. I chalked it up to the alcohol, though I’d barely had two sips. The candles seemed to flicker brighter, the shadows deeper. Then, a muffled sound—a voice, familiar yet distorted—drifted from the other room. My curiosity piqued, I fought an inexplicable urge to stay seated, my legs refusing to move as easily as they should.

Before I could puzzle it out, Samantha returned. Her smirk was wider now, a Cheshire grin that sent a chill through me. “I’ve been dying for you to meet my surprise guest,” she said, her words dripping with malice. She leaned against the doorway, twirling that damn pendant between her fingers like a trophy.

“Surprise guest?” I managed, my voice thicker than I intended.

Her laugh was sharp, cruel, slicing through the haze in my mind. “Oh, you’ll love this.” She stepped aside, and the door to the adjacent room creaked open. My breath caught in my throat. There, bound to a chair, her eyes wide with fear and confusion, was Lorelei. A gag muffled her cries, but the betrayal in her gaze hit me like a punch.

“Sam, what the hell—” I started, but my body wouldn’t move. My limbs were leaden, locked in place.

Samantha sauntered over, leaning in close until her breath was hot against my ear. “Tonight, darling, is about settling old scores,” she whispered, her voice a seductive hiss. “And trust me, I’ve been waiting for this.”

I wanted to scream, to lunge for Lorelei, to do anything—but I couldn’t. My body betrayed me, frozen under some unseen force. Samantha straightened, her triumphant grin gleaming in the candlelight as she twirled the pendant once more. “Oh, we’re going to have an unforgettable night of fun,” she promised, her eyes alight with vicious delight.

And as realization dawned too late, I knew I’d walked straight into her trap.
