The living room was cozy, filled with the warm glow of the fireplace. Emily entered the room, her eyes immediately drawn to Nick sitting on the couch. He was wearing his gloves again, a sight that had become all too familiar in recent months. She playfully scoffed, “Nick, you know I don’t mind your scars, right? You’re still as handsome as the day I met you.”
Nick, feeling self-conscious, muttered, “I know, Em. It’s just... I feel so vulnerable without these gloves. I’m not the man you fell in love with anymore.”
Emily, with a gentle touch, sat down next to him and took off his gloves, placing them on the table. She looked into his eyes, her gaze filled with warmth and understanding. “You’re wrong, Nick. You’re still the same man, just a little more battle-worn. And that’s what makes you even sexier.”
Nick chuckled nervously, “You really think so?” Emily, with a twinkle in her eye, replied, “I do. In fact, I think it’s time to remind you just how desirable you are.”
Before Nick could respond, Emily straddled him, her lips meeting his in a deep kiss. He responded, hesitantly at first, but soon melted into the moment. She whispered, “See, Nick? You’re still you. Scars and all.”
Nick, emboldened, started to unbutton Emily’s blouse. She smirked, “About time, soldier. I was starting to think you’ve forgotten how to undress a lady.”
Their laughter filled the room as they continued to undress each other. Emily, now in her bra, teased, “You know, I’ve always had a thing for tough guys. And you, Nick, are the toughest guy I know.”
Nick, completely naked now, pulled Emily close. He said, “I’m glad you still see me that way. I’ve been so lost, Em.”
Emily, now also naked, responded, “You’re not lost, Nick. You’re right here, with me. And that’s all that matters.”
They made love, their bodies intertwined. Nick, for the first time in a long time, felt desired and loved. Afterwards, they lay in each other’s arms, spent and satisfied. Emily, tracing the scars on Nick’s back, said, “These are your battle wounds, Nick. They’re a part of you. And I wouldn’t have you any other way.”
Nick, tears in his eyes, replied, “Thank you, Em. I love you so much.”
Emily, smiling, said, “I love you too, Nick. Now, let’s not let these gloves come between us again, okay?”
Nick, chuckling, agreed, “Deal, Em. No more gloves.”
They fell asleep in each other’s arms, the room filled with love and acceptance. The gloves were forgotten, replaced by the warmth of their bodies and the certainty of their love. Emily had reminded Nick of who he truly was - a strong, desirable man, worthy of love and acceptance. And in that moment, they were both enough, just as they were.
