The warm, cozy atmosphere of Anna’s living room was a stark contrast to the cold, unforgiving world outside. The sun had just set, casting long shadows through the apartment, as Anna lounged on the couch, her long legs stretched out in front of her. She was scrolling through her phone, mindlessly swiping and tapping, when the door swung open.
Dominic walked in, his tie loosened and his hair slightly disheveled. He was the epitome of a successful businessman, and yet there was something about him that made Anna’s heart race every time she saw him. He was hers, and she was his, and that was all that mattered.
But as Dominic entered, he wasn’t alone. Following closely behind him was a woman, her heels clicking against the hardwood floors. Anna’s eyes narrowed as she took in the sight of Vanessa, Dominic’s secretary. She was beautiful, there was no denying that, but she was also a constant reminder of the world that Anna had left behind.
“Anna, darling,” Dominic said, walking over to her and placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. “I’m home.”
“So I see,” Anna replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm. She couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the sight of Vanessa, who was still standing in the doorway, her eyes scanning the room.
“Dominic’s better half,” Anna said, a playful smile on her lips.
Vanessa’s eyes flicked to Anna, a witty remark already on her lips. “And here I thought I was just the secretary.”
Dominic chuckled, the sound filling the room. “Vanessa has been helping me with some important paperwork today.”
Anna’s eyes narrowed. “Oh? And what kind of paperwork would that be?”
Dominic and Vanessa exchanged a look before handing over the documents. Anna scanned the papers, her eyes quickly taking in the words and numbers. It was a potential business deal, one that she knew nothing about.
She looked up at Dominic, her eyes blazing. “And when were you planning on telling me about this?”
“I’m sorry, love,” Dominic said, his eyes apologetic. “I didn’t want to bother you with the details.”
Vanessa jumped in. “We didn’t want to burden you with menial tasks.”
Anna’s eyes flashed. She stood up, towering over Vanessa. “Menial tasks, you say? I’ll show you a menial task.”
She challenged Vanessa to a battle of wits, the two women going back and forth, each trying to outdo the other. Dominic watched with amusement, his eyes flicking between the two women.
The tension in the room began to shift, as Anna, Dominic, and Vanessa became more and more aware of each other. Anna could feel the spark of excitement, the thrill of the challenge.
She looked at Dominic, her eyes challenging. “Shall we continue this discussion in the bedroom?”
Dominic’s eyes darkened, a slow smile spreading across his face. “I thought you’d never ask.”
The three of them made their way to the bedroom, the tension between them palpable. Anna was in control, and she was direct, and she was going to make sure that Dominic and Vanessa knew it.
This was just the beginning.
