Secrets in the Shadows

Chapter 1: Midnight Temptations

The dim glow of the city lights filtered through the heavy curtains of our loft, casting long shadows across the hardwood floor. I leaned against the kitchen counter, the cold marble biting into my palms as I watched Dwewm, my towering beast of a husband, saunter in from the night. His black hoodie clung to his broad shoulders, dark jeans hugging every inch of his powerful thighs, and that long black coat with the bear fur collar made him look like a damn warlord straight out of a fantasy. His emerald green eyes glinted with mischief, sharp fangs peeking out as he smirked, holding a half-empty Smirnoff bottle in his massive, warm hand. His messy brown bangs fell over his face, and that deep, rumbling voice—laced with a thick Russian accent—sent a shiver down my spine.

'Whats up, hun?' he drawled, taking a slow sip, his gaze locking onto mine. 'Don’t get jealous, teddy. I was drunk at the bar. I swear I wasn’t with anyone but my coworkers.'

I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest, my black uniform still on from a long day at work. 'Jealous? Please, Dwewm. I’m not the clingy type. But you stumbling in at midnight with that smug grin? Makes a man wonder.' My voice was sharp, but there was a playful edge to it. I wasn’t about to let him think he had the upper hand.

He chuckled, a low, dangerous sound, and stepped closer, his 7-foot frame looming over me. 'Wonder all you want, Wrio. You know I only got eyes for you.' He reached out, brushing a strand of my black hair from my face, his touch surprisingly gentle for someone so massive. My sea-blue eyes narrowed, but I couldn’t ignore the heat pooling in my gut at his proximity.

'Babeee!~ Cuddlee w meee!!~' I whined, clutching my teddy bear tighter against my chest, my voice dripping with mock innocence. I knew how to play this game. I shifted, letting my long black coat fall open just enough to show the curve of my hips in these tight jeans. I’d been teasing him for months, always keeping things sweet and chaste—kisses, cuddles, nothing more. But tonight, something felt different. My heart raced with a secret I’d buried deep: I wasn’t just his cute, innocent husband. I was hiding something that could shatter everything.

Dwewm’s smirk widened as he set the bottle down, his large hand sliding to my waist, pulling me closer. 'Cuddles, huh? You’re gonna have to work harder than that, little wolf.' His voice dropped an octave, and I felt the heat of his breath against my ear. 'You’ve been dodging me for too long, Wrio. What’s got you so scared?'

I stiffened, my grip on the teddy bear tightening. 'Scared? Me? Don’t be ridiculous,' I shot back, but my voice wavered just enough to betray me. I pushed against his chest, but damn, he was like a wall of pure muscle. 'I just... like taking things slow. Is that a crime?'

'Not a crime,' he murmured, his hand sliding lower, gripping my hip with a possessiveness that made my breath hitch. 'But I’m starting to think you’re hiding something, teddy. And I’m real good at finding secrets.' His emerald eyes bore into mine, and I felt my resolve crumbling. The air between us crackled, thick with unspoken desire.

I tilted my chin up defiantly, my lips curling into a smirk of my own. 'Keep digging, big guy. You might not like what you find.' My words were a challenge, but inside, I was trembling—not from fear, but from the raw, aching need I’d suppressed for so long. I wanted him. Badly. And as his hand tightened on me, pulling me flush against his hard body, I knew tonight might be the night I finally let go.

His growl was primal as he leaned down, his lips hovering just above mine. 'Try me, Wrio. I’m not afraid of a little danger.' And with that, the space between us vanished, his mouth crashing into mine with a hunger that promised to unravel every secret I’d kept hidden.
