Shadows of Desire

**Chapter 1: First Sparks in the Dark**

MaKenzie MacDougall leaned against the graffiti-covered wall of the abandoned warehouse district, her black combat boots scuffing the cracked pavement. Her dark eyeliner framed eyes that burned with a restless hunger, and her jet-black hair fell in jagged waves over her shoulder. She was supposed to be in school, but the thought of sitting through another lecture on quadratic equations made her want to scream. Instead, she was here, waiting for Erin Krakow—the woman who’d stolen her breath the first time she’d seen her on her mom’s film set.

Erin, at 26, was a vision of effortless allure, with her honey-blonde hair and a smirk that could melt steel. She strode toward Kenzie now, her leather jacket slung over one shoulder, her walk confident and predatory. 'Skipping school for me, huh? I’m flattered, kid,' Erin teased, her voice a low, smoky drawl as she stopped just inches away.

'Don’t call me kid,' Kenzie shot back, her lips curling into a defiant grin. 'I’m eighteen, and I know exactly what I want.' Her gaze raked over Erin, unapologetic and bold. 'And it’s not algebra.'

Erin chuckled, stepping closer, the heat of her body radiating through the crisp autumn air. 'Oh, I know what you want, MacDougall. Question is, can you handle it?' Her fingers brushed against Kenzie’s jaw, a fleeting touch that sent a jolt straight through her core.

'Try me,' Kenzie challenged, her voice dripping with bravado. She wasn’t some wilting flower; she was a storm wrapped in black lace, and she’d be damned if she let Erin think otherwise. 'I’ve been fantasizing about this date since the day I saw you yell at that director for screwing up your scene. Power looks good on you.'

Erin’s eyes darkened, a wicked glint flashing in them. 'Careful, sweetheart. Keep talking like that, and I might not wait until we get to the diner.' She tilted her head, her lips hovering just a breath from Kenzie’s. 'I’ve got half a mind to pin you against this wall right now.'

'Promises, promises,' Kenzie taunted, her heart pounding like a drum in her chest. She could feel the tension coiling between them, electric and dangerous. 'You gonna keep talking, or are you gonna show me what that mouth can do?'

Erin’s laugh was sharp, cutting through the quiet of the empty lot. 'Oh, you’re trouble, aren’t you?' She gripped Kenzie’s waist, pulling her flush against her body, the sudden contact making Kenzie gasp. 'Let’s see how cocky you are when I’ve got you panting for me.'

Kenzie’s breath hitched, her hands sliding up Erin’s chest, fingers curling into the fabric of her shirt. 'Bring it on, Krakow. I’m not some delicate little thing. I want it hard, and I want it now.' Her words were a dare, a challenge, and she could see the fire ignite in Erin’s gaze.

They stumbled back against the wall, the rough brick scraping against Kenzie’s back as Erin’s lips crashed into hers, hungry and fierce. The kiss was a battle, all teeth and tongue, a clash of wills as much as desire. Kenzie’s hands roamed, greedy and demanding, slipping under Erin’s jacket to feel the heat of her skin. She could already imagine Erin’s touch lower, her fingers teasing, driving her wild until she was wet and dripping with need.

Erin pulled back just enough to growl against her ear, 'You’re gonna be the death of me, MacDougall. But damn, what a way to go.' Her hand slid down Kenzie’s thigh, hitching her leg up around her waist, the friction making Kenzie’s head spin.

As the world narrowed to the heat of their bodies and the promise of what was to come, Kenzie knew this was only the beginning. Tonight, they’d burn brighter than any flame—and she was ready to be consumed.
