Chapter 1: Dangerous Liaisons
Rina adjusted the sleek black dress that hugged her curves like a lover’s caress, her reflection in the cracked mirror of the underground bar smirking back at her. She wasn’t here for the watered-down drinks or the stale air thick with desperation. No, she was here for him—Mun Baek, the enigmatic arms dealer whose name was whispered like a forbidden prayer in the underbelly of Seoul. Her intel had led her to this dive, and Rina, a freelance operative with a penchant for trouble, wasn’t about to let a little danger dull her edge.
The door creaked as he entered, all sharp angles and brooding menace. Mun Baek’s leather jacket clung to his broad shoulders, his dark eyes scanning the room until they locked on her. A predator recognizing his equal. Rina’s pulse quickened, but she masked it with a slow, deliberate sip of her drink, her crimson lips curling into a challenge.
“Well, damn,” Mun Baek drawled, his voice a low rumble as he slid into the seat across from her without invitation. “If I’d known the devil wore stilettos, I’d have come to this hellhole sooner.”
Rina arched a brow, leaning forward just enough to let the neckline of her dress tease what lay beneath. “And if I’d known arms dealers had a silver tongue, I might’ve brought a gag. You’re Mun Baek, I presume?”
He smirked, his gaze dipping to her cleavage before snapping back to her eyes. “Guilty as charged. And you’re Rina, the woman who’s been sniffing around my business like a bloodhound in heat. What do you want, darling? A deal or a duel?”
She laughed, sharp and biting, crossing her legs with deliberate slowness. “Oh, I don’t duel, Baek. I dominate. But I’ll settle for a deal—if you’ve got the guts to play with someone who doesn’t kneel.”
His eyes darkened, a flicker of raw hunger igniting behind the cool facade. “Careful, Rina. Keep talking like that, and I’ll forget we’re in public. I don’t kneel either, but I’ve got other talents.”
The air between them crackled, charged with unspoken promises. Rina felt the heat pooling low in her belly, but she wasn’t about to let him see her falter. She leaned closer, her breath brushing his ear as she whispered, “Prove it, then. I’m not here for empty words.”
Mun Baek’s hand shot out, fingers curling around her wrist with a grip that was both possessive and electric. “You want proof? Let’s take this somewhere private. I’ve got a room upstairs, and I’m betting you’re as curious as I am to see who breaks first.”
Rina pulled back just enough to meet his gaze, her own eyes glinting with defiance and desire. “Lead the way, dealer. But don’t think for a second I’m the one who’ll be begging.”
They rose as one, the tension between them a living thing, pulling them toward the dimly lit stairwell at the back of the bar. Her heels clicked with purpose, his boots heavy with intent. As they reached the door to the rented room, Mun Baek pressed her against the wall, his body hard and unyielding against hers. His breath was hot on her neck, and she could feel the evidence of his arousal pressing into her thigh.
“Last chance to back out, Rina,” he growled, his hand sliding down to grip her hip. “I play rough.”
She tilted her head back, a wicked smile playing on her lips as she dragged her nails down his chest. “Good. So do I.”
The door slammed open, and they stumbled inside, the promise of an explosive collision hanging heavy in the air. Clothes were already being tugged at, hands roaming with desperate need, as the game of power and passion began.
