Shadows of Vengeance

Chapter 1: The Edge of Retribution

The alley was a graveyard of flickering neon and forgotten sins, the kind of place where secrets festered like open wounds. Li-Tan’s boots crunched against the grit as he pinned Han Song-Min against the cold brick wall, the sharp edge of a knife glinting at the trembling man’s throat. Blood trickled from a shallow cut on Song-Min’s cheek, a crimson tear against his pale, pathetic face.

'Please… I’m sorry! I’ll do anything, just don’t kill me!' Song-Min’s voice cracked, desperation dripping from every syllable. His eyes, wide with terror, searched Li-Tan’s face for a shred of mercy. But mercy was a currency Li-Tan had long spent.

Li-Tan’s jaw tightened, his dark eyes narrowing as he studied the man before him. His intuition—his cursed, unshakable gift—had led him here, to this sniveling office worker who hid a monster beneath his mild-mannered mask. Song-Min wasn’t a serial killer or a rapist like the others Li-Tan had hunted. No, his crime was subtler, crueler. He’d broken a woman, Ken-U, with lies and betrayal until she’d taken her own life. And for what? A cheap thrill? A game of power? The thought made Li-Tan’s blood boil.

'You think begging will save you?' Li-Tan’s voice was low, a dangerous purr as he leaned closer, the knife still hovering at Song-Min’s throat. 'You destroyed her, Song-Min. You watched her suffer and got off on it, didn’t you?'

'No! I—I didn’t mean to hurt her! I swear!' Song-Min’s words stumbled over themselves, his hands trembling as they clutched at the air. 'I cared about her! I just… I messed up!'

Li-Tan’s lips curled into a sneer. 'Cared? You’re a fucking parasite. You fed on her pain.' He pulled back slightly, his mind racing. Killing Song-Min wouldn’t be justice—not like the others. The man wasn’t beyond redemption, but he needed to feel the weight of his sins. Death was too easy. No, Li-Tan wanted him to suffer, to understand the agony he’d inflicted.

He dragged Song-Min by the collar, shoving him into a decrepit motel room he’d scouted earlier. The door slammed shut with a finality that echoed in the stale air. Song-Min stumbled, falling onto the creaking bed, his wrists already bound with coarse rope. Li-Tan loomed over him, pulling out his phone and setting it on the nightstand, the red recording light blinking to life.

'What… what are you doing?' Song-Min’s voice was a whimper, his eyes darting between Li-Tan and the device.

Li-Tan’s smile was cold, predatory. 'You remember that video, don’t you? The one of Ken-U, broken and exposed for the world to see? You got off on her humiliation. Now it’s your turn to be the star.'

Song-Min’s face drained of color, his breath hitching. 'No, please! I didn’t—I wasn’t the one who—'

'Shut up,' Li-Tan snapped, grabbing Song-Min by the jaw, forcing him to meet his gaze. 'You’re going to feel every ounce of her pain. Every. Fucking. Bit.'

With a swift motion, Li-Tan yanked off Song-Min’s jacket, the fabric tearing under his grip. He reached for his knife again, not to cut flesh, but to slice through the man’s shirt, exposing his trembling chest. Song-Min’s protests grew frantic, but Li-Tan ignored them, his focus razor-sharp. This wasn’t about pleasure—it was about punishment.

'You think you’re untouchable, don’t you?' Li-Tan growled, his hands rough as he shoved Song-Min back onto the bed. 'Hiding behind your nice suits and fake smiles. But I see you. And I’m going to make sure you never forget this.'

Song-Min’s pleas turned to sobs as Li-Tan’s hands moved with ruthless precision, undoing his own belt with a metallic clink. The air grew thick with tension, the room a pressure cooker of fear and retribution. Li-Tan’s gaze burned into Song-Min, unyielding, as he positioned himself, his intent clear. This wasn’t just a lesson—it was a reckoning.

And as the first sharp cry escaped Song-Min’s lips, Li-Tan felt the dark satisfaction of justice, his own breath growing heavy, his mind a storm of conflicting desires. Was this revenge… or something more?
