Cady's workshop was a symphony of whirring gears and humming circuits, the air heavy with the scent of oil and electricity. She was completely engrossed in her latest project, a pair of mechanical wings that would make even Icarus envious, when the door slammed open.
"Cady!"
Aphrodite stood in the doorway, her face flushed and her eyes blazing. She hurled a sandal at her sister, who caught it with a practiced ease.
"What's got your panties in a twist, sis?" Cady asked, examining the sandal with a raised eyebrow.
"You, you heartless robot!" Aphrodite exclaimed, stomping her foot. "You never pay attention to my love life!"
Cady sighed, setting the sandal down gently. "Alright, spill. What happened?"
Aphrodite's shoulders sagged, and she looked at the ground. "I cheated on Hephaestus."
Cady's eyes widened. "Oh, Aphrodite. That's not good."
Aphrodite rolled her eyes. "Like you would know anything about love, Cady. You're always tinkering away in this stupid workshop."
Cady ignored the jab. "What can I do to help?"
Aphrodite looked at her sister incredulously. "You think a drink will solve the problem?"
Cady shrugged. "It can't hurt. Besides, Hephaestus is a good guy. He deserves better than to be cheated on."
Aphrodite sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Fine. But you have to promise to stay out of our conversation."
Cady held up her hands in surrender. "I promise."
Hephaestus arrived a few hours later, looking downcast and heartbroken. Cady offered him a drink, and he accepted, thanking her for her kindness.
As the night wore on, Cady noticed that Hephaestus seemed to be cheering up. She made a comment about it, but Aphrodite silenced her with a glare.
Cady, not one to back down, made a playful jab at Aphrodite. "Come on, Aphrodite. You're the goddess of love. You should be the one to make Hephaestus feel better."
Aphrodite, insulted, stormed off, leaving Cady and Hephaestus alone. Hephaestus thanked Cady for the offer, but declined, saying he wouldn't feel right taking advantage of the situation.
Cady, understanding his feelings, assured him that she wasn't suggesting anything inappropriate. She just wanted to help him move on from Aphrodite.
Hephaestus, touched by Cady's concern, made a comment about how different she was from Aphrodite. Cady, flattered, made a self-deprecating joke about being a "technology nerd" compared to Aphrodite's beauty.
Hephaestus, laughing, told her that he found her intelligence and creativity attractive. Cady, surprised, thanked him and made a playful comment about him being a "metalworking hottie".
Hephaestus, taken aback by Cady's forwardness, was speechless for a moment. Cady, noticing his reaction, made a comment about him being "easily flustered" and suggested they call it a night.
Hephaestus, still processing the conversation, agreed. As he left, Cady couldn't help but feel a spark of attraction towards him.
Cady, alone in her workshop, reflected on the unexpected turn of events. She couldn't deny the feelings she had for Hephaestus, but she knew she couldn't act on them. She sighed and turned back to her mechanical wings, determined to focus on her inventions.
But as she worked, she couldn't shake the thought of Hephaestus's kind eyes and gentle smile. She knew she had to keep her distance, but a part of her couldn't help but hope that maybe, just maybe, there could be something more between them.
