Chapter 1: Stranded Heat
The Jeep sputtered to a pathetic halt on the snow-draped mountain road, the engine giving one last pitiful cough before dying. Kate, bundled in a parka, slammed her gloved hand against the steering wheel. 'Well, fuck me sideways, this is just what we needed,' she growled, her sharp green eyes flashing with irritation.
Sarah, in the passenger seat, smirked, brushing a strand of dark hair from her face. 'Careful, Kate, I might take that as an invitation.' Her voice was a low purr, teasing but laced with something hotter, something that made the air in the cramped Jeep feel suddenly charged.
Jake, sprawled in the back, chuckled, his deep voice cutting through the tension. 'Ladies, if we’re throwing out offers, I’m game. But maybe we focus on not freezing to death first?' His hazel eyes glinted with mischief as he leaned forward, his broad shoulders brushing against the seats.
Kate shot him a look that could melt steel. 'Keep dreaming, pretty boy. Let’s find shelter before I have to start using your ego to keep us warm.'
They trudged through the biting wind, snowflakes stinging their faces, until they stumbled upon a miracle—a ski cabin, tucked against the mountainside, fully stocked with firewood, canned goods, and, thank the gods, a working generator. Inside, the air was stale but warm, the promise of safety wrapping around them like a lover’s embrace.
As they shed their damp layers, the cabin’s single room felt smaller, the tension between them growing thicker. Sarah kicked off her boots, her toned legs stretching as she sprawled on a plush rug by the fireplace. 'This is almost romantic, don’t you think?' she mused, her gaze flicking between Kate and Jake, daring them to bite.
Kate, stoking the fire, snorted. 'Romantic? I’m more interested in not losing any toes to frostbite. But if you’re offering to warm me up, I’m listening.' Her tone was sharp, but her eyes lingered on Sarah’s curves, a hungry edge creeping in.
Jake, hauling in more wood, grinned. 'I’m feeling left out here. What’s a guy gotta do to get in on this action?' He flexed subtly, his shirt clinging to his chest, and Sarah laughed, low and wicked.
'Oh, Jake, you’ve got no idea what you’re asking for. Kate and I play rough.' She winked at Kate, who rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide the smirk tugging at her lips.
The fire crackled, casting golden shadows over their faces as they settled in, passing a bottle of whiskey they’d found in a cabinet. Each sip burned away another layer of restraint, their banter growing sharper, hotter. Kate leaned back against the couch, her legs brushing Sarah’s. 'You know, if we’re stuck here, we might as well make the most of it. I’m not one for wasting opportunities.'
Sarah’s eyes darkened, her voice dropping to a whisper. 'Careful, babe. I bite back.' She shifted closer, her hand grazing Kate’s thigh, the touch electric.
Jake watched, his breath hitching, the room suddenly too warm. 'Fuck, you two are gonna kill me before the storm does.'
Kate turned to him, her smile predatory. 'Stick around, Jake. You might just survive long enough to enjoy it.'
The air was thick with unspoken promises as Sarah’s fingers tightened on Kate’s thigh, and Jake moved closer, the heat of their bodies mingling with the fire’s glow. They were teetering on the edge, the storm outside nothing compared to the one brewing within. One more push, and they’d all be lost to it—sweating, panting, and desperate for more.
