"I don't know why I bother even trying," she complained to Hephaestus, the god of fire and metalworking. "I can't seem to find a god who appreciates my intelligence and my drive. They're all so shallow and dull."
Hephaestus grunted, not looking up from the invention he was working on. "Tell me about it. I'm the god of fire and metalworking, and I can't even get a date."
Cady couldn't help but notice the new invention Hephaestus was working on, and she couldn't help but offer her two cents. "You know, if you angled that piece differently, it would have a more efficient flow of energy."
Hephaestus rolled his eyes, but he couldn't deny that Cady's ideas were good. "You're such a control freak, Cady. Can't you just let me work?"
Cady shot him a playful insult. "And you're too stubborn for your own good. But that's why we make a good team."
The two of them continued to work on the invention together, their banter and chemistry growing as the piece came together. A group of gods, secretly watching them, started to comment on their compatibility.
"They're perfect for each other," one of them whispered. "Why haven't they gotten together yet?"
Cady and Hephaestus continued to work, unaware of the others' observations. As they finished the invention, Cady accidentally got a drop of hot metal on her hand and yelped in pain.
Hephaestus immediately took her hand and blew on it, soothing the burn. The two shared a moment of connection, looking into each other's eyes.
Cady, in her typical direct manner, said, "well, this is nice and all, but are we going to stand here all day or are we going to test out this invention?"
Hephaestus, amused by her bluntness, agreed and they tested out the invention, both impressed by the final product. The other gods, still watching, started to cheer and clap, hinting at their knowledge of the two's compatibility.
Cady and Hephaestus, blushing, brushed off the attention and continued to work together, the sparks between them growing stronger. The chapter ended with the two gods working on a new invention, their relationship starting to ignite.
"This is going to be our best invention yet," Cady said, a smile on her face.
Hephaestus nodded, his own smile mirroring hers. "With you by my side, anything is possible."
