Strings of Desire: A Night with Stevie Ray

Strings of Desire: A Night with Stevie Ray

Chapter 1: Backstage Heat

The sultry Austin night clung to my skin as I leaned against the graffiti-scarred wall of the venue, the distant thrum of blues guitar still echoing in my bones. I’d been to half a dozen Stevie Ray Vaughan shows in the past year, each one leaving me more obsessed with the man behind the Stratocaster. Tonight, though, felt different. A roadie with a crooked grin and a backstage pass dangling from his neck had spotted me in the crowd, recognized my face, and slipped me an invite to the after-party. 'Stevie’s been askin’ ‘bout the fiery redhead in the front row,' he’d said with a wink. My heart had damn near stopped.

Now, here I was, Cathy, a woman who didn’t wait for life to happen, standing in a dimly lit backstage lounge that smelled of whiskey and sweat. The room buzzed with hangers-on, but my eyes locked on him the second he walked in—Stevie Ray, all lean muscle and quiet swagger, his hat tipped low and a cigarette dangling from his lips. He scanned the room, and when his gaze hit mine, it was like a live wire snapped between us.

'Well, damn, darlin’,' he drawled, sauntering over with that Texas charm dripping off every word. 'I was startin’ to think you were a mirage. Seen you out there, dancin’ like you owned the whole damn stage.'

I smirked, crossing my arms, my leather jacket creaking as I sized him up. 'Maybe I do. You’re the one who’s been staring, Vaughan. Thought you were s’posed to be playin’ guitar, not playin’ stalker.'

He chuckled, low and rough, taking a drag off his cigarette before flicking it aside. 'Can’t help it when a woman’s got fire like yours. Burns hotter than any amp I’ve ever cranked.'

I stepped closer, the heat of his presence pulling me in like a magnet. 'Flattery’s cheap, Stevie. You gonna show me somethin’ real, or just keep strummin’ sweet nothings?'

His eyes darkened, a wicked grin curling his lips as he leaned in, his breath hot against my ear. 'Oh, I got plenty real for you, Cathy. Question is, can you handle the riff?'

My pulse raced, but I wasn’t about to let him think he had the upper hand. I tilted my head, my lips brushing the stubble on his jaw as I whispered, 'Try me, cowboy. I don’t break easy.'

The air between us crackled, thick with unspoken promises. He grabbed my hand, his calloused fingers rough against my skin, and pulled me toward a quieter corner of the lounge, away from prying eyes. The second we were out of sight, he backed me against the wall, his body pressing into mine, hard and unyielding. I could feel the heat radiating off him, the raw energy of a man who poured his soul into every note he played.

'You’re trouble, ain’t ya?' he murmured, his hands sliding to my hips, gripping tight as if he couldn’t wait another second to claim me.

'The best kind,' I shot back, my nails digging into his shoulders as I pulled him closer. 'Don’t tell me you’re all talk, Stevie. I came here for a show.'

His laugh was a growl, and before I could throw another jab, his mouth crashed into mine, hungry and fierce. The taste of smoke and whiskey on his tongue sent a shiver down my spine, and I matched his intensity, my hands roaming his back, feeling the taut muscle beneath his shirt. We were a collision of need, the kind of heat that could set the whole damn building on fire.

His lips trailed down my neck, teeth grazing my skin as I arched into him, my breath hitching. 'Goddamn, woman,' he rasped, his voice thick with want. 'You’re gonna make me lose my mind before we even get started.'

I grinned, my fingers tangling in his hair as I tugged his head back to meet my gaze. 'Good. I don’t play for half-measures. Let’s see how hard you can rock me.'

The promise of what was coming hung heavy between us, our bodies already aching for more. This wasn’t just a backstage fling—it was a storm waiting to break, and I was ready to ride every lightning strike.
