Sunset Seduction

Chapter 1: The Heat of the Horizon

The yacht sliced through the endless blue, a sleek predator on a glassy sea. Dee lay stretched out along the stern, facing the sky, her bare feet hooked on the rail, utterly absorbed in the colors of the fading day. I settled into a cushioned lounge chair nearby, my body sinking into the fabric, my mind struggling to stay on the runway, on the plan. The last light poured over her, turning her skin to bronze. The glow traced the lines of her body, framed her against the darkening sea like some impossible photograph—too composed, too beautiful to be real. For a moment, the mission, the risk, all of it slid to the edges of my thoughts. I watched the slow rise and fall of her breathing instead.

'You gonna stare all night, Jace, or you got something to say?' Dee’s voice cut through the haze, sharp as a blade, her eyes still fixed on the sky. A smirk played on her lips, daring me to answer.

I leaned forward, elbows on my knees, letting a slow grin spread across my face. 'Just wondering how someone so damn deadly looks so peaceful. It’s a paradox I can’t solve.'

She turned her head, finally meeting my gaze, her dark eyes glinting with mischief. 'Peaceful? Baby, I’m a storm waiting to break. You’re just too busy drooling to notice the thunder.'

I laughed, low and rough, the sound swallowed by the hum of the ocean. 'Oh, I hear it. I’m just wondering if I’m dumb enough to stand in the rain.'

Dee sat up in one fluid motion, swinging her legs over the side of the deck, her bikini top barely containing the curves I’d been trying not to notice. She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a husky purr. 'You’re not dumb, Jace. You’re reckless. And I’m the kind of storm that drowns men like you.'

My pulse kicked up a notch, heat pooling low in my gut. I stood, closing the distance between us, the deck creaking under my weight. 'Good thing I swim better than most.'

She tilted her head back to look up at me, her lips parting just enough to show a flash of teeth. 'Prove it, then. Or are you all talk and no dive?'

The challenge hung in the air, thick as the salt on the breeze. I reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her shoulder, my fingers lingering on her warm, sun-kissed skin. Her breath hitched, just for a second, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she stood, her body brushing against mine as she rose, her scent—coconut and something wild—flooding my senses.

'Careful, Dee,' I murmured, my voice rough with want. 'Keep pushing, and I might just take you under with me.'

Her laugh was low, dangerous, her hand sliding up my chest, nails grazing through my shirt. 'Oh, honey, I’m not the one who’s gonna sink. You’re already half-drowned, and I haven’t even started.'

My hands found her hips, pulling her closer, the heat of her body searing through the thin fabric between us. Her eyes locked on mine, fierce and unyielding, a woman who took what she wanted and didn’t apologize for it. I could feel the tension coiling tighter, the air crackling with unspoken promises. We were a breath away from crashing into each other, the kind of collision that would leave us both wrecked—and neither of us cared.

Her lips hovered near mine, her voice a whisper that sent a shiver down my spine. 'Last chance to swim away, Jace. Or are you ready to get wet?'
