Chapter 1: The First Move (Day 1 - 29 Days Left)
Relationship Status: Strangers with Unspoken Attraction
The secluded beach house was a sultry trap, a month-long cage for four souls tangled in a web of lust and rivalry. Kai Thompson leaned against the weathered wooden railing of the deck, his ambivert nature keeping him cool and distant as the ocean breeze tousled his dark hair. He was the quiet storm, a man who could unravel you with a smirk once you cracked his shell. Inside, his twin brother Max was already wrapped around Zoey Lee’s finger, laughing too loud at her timid jokes. But Kai’s eyes weren’t on them. They were on her—Katy Lee, Zoey’s older cousin, the walking wildfire who’d been eyeing him like prey since they arrived.
Katy sauntered out onto the deck, her outfit screaming sin beneath a thin veneer of modesty. A cropped tube top clung to her curves, the neckline plunging so low it was a dare to look away, paired with a flowy skirt so short it fluttered with every step, revealing glimpses of nothing underneath. She knew exactly what she was doing, and she reveled in it. Her walk was a performance, hips swaying with reckless intent as she approached Kai, a predator’s grin on her lips.
‘So, Kai,’ she purred, her voice dripping with honeyed mischief, ‘you gonna stand out here brooding all month, or are you gonna let me show you how to have some fun?’ She leaned against the railing beside him, close enough that her bare thigh brushed his jeans, her scent—vanilla and something dangerously sweet—invading his space.
Kai turned his head, meeting her gaze with a lazy smirk. ‘Fun, huh? I’m guessing your definition involves trouble I didn’t sign up for.’ His tone was sharp, but there was a flicker of curiosity in his dark eyes, a crack in his armor she was already itching to exploit.
‘Oh, come on,’ Katy teased, her fingers trailing along the railing, inching toward his hand. ‘Trouble’s my middle name, and I’m damn good at it. You don’t look like the type to back down from a challenge.’ She tilted her head, letting her hair cascade over one shoulder, exposing more skin than necessary. ‘Or are you scared I’ll burn you?’
Kai chuckled, low and dangerous, stepping just a fraction closer. ‘Scared? Nah. I just don’t play games I know I’ll win too easily.’ His words were a jab, but his eyes betrayed him, lingering on the way her top strained against her chest.
Katy’s laugh was a sultry melody, her hand now brushing his as she leaned in, her breath hot against his ear. ‘Win? Baby, you haven’t even started the game. I’m not some shy little thing like my cousin in there. I play dirty, and I always get what I want.’ She pulled back just enough to lock eyes with him, her gaze smoldering. ‘And right now, I want you to stop pretending you’re not already imagining me out of this skirt.’
Kai’s jaw tightened, a muscle ticking as he fought the heat creeping up his spine. ‘Bold assumption, Katy. What if I’m not the type to fall for a pretty face and a cheap trick?’
‘Cheap?’ She gasped in mock offense, pressing a hand to her chest, which only drew his attention lower. ‘Honey, there’s nothing cheap about me. I’m a fucking luxury, and you know it. But if you need convincing…’ Her voice dropped to a whisper as she stepped even closer, her body nearly flush with his. ‘I can show you just how expensive a taste of me can be.’
The air between them crackled, charged with unspoken promises. Kai’s restraint was fraying, his hands itching to grab her, to test if she was all talk. Katy saw it—the hunger in his eyes—and she smirked, knowing she had him on the edge. She turned, pressing her back against the railing now, her ass barely covered by the skirt as she arched just enough to make his breath hitch. ‘Your move, Kai. Or are you just gonna stand there getting hard while I do all the work?’
His control snapped like a taut wire. In one swift motion, he closed the distance, his hands gripping her hips as he pulled her against him, feeling the heat of her through his jeans. ‘You talk a big game, Katy,’ he growled, his voice rough with want. ‘Let’s see if you can keep up.’
Her laugh was triumphant as she wrapped her arms around his neck, her body pressing into his, already feeling him hard against her. ‘Oh, I can keep up, baby. Question is, can you handle me when I’m wet and dripping for you?’
Their lips were inches apart, the tension ready to ignite into something explosive, something that would leave them both sweating and panting under the moonlight. The night was young, and Katy Lee was just getting started.
