Temptation's Playbook

Chapter 1: The Tutor and the Titan

Lila Santos sat at the edge of her chair in the quiet library, her delicate fingers tapping nervously on the worn wooden table. At eighteen, she was the epitome of innocence—pale, porcelain skin that glowed under the fluorescent lights, long black hair cascading over her shoulders, and wide, curious eyes that hid a sharp, untapped intellect. A Filipina beauty with a mind for numbers, she was the go-to tutor for struggling athletes at St. Marco High. But today, her heart raced for reasons beyond algebra.

Across from her sat Jaxon Reed, the school’s star quarterback. Six-foot-three of pure, sculpted muscle, with a cocky grin that could melt steel and dark eyes that seemed to undress her with every glance. He was failing trig, and Lila was his last hope before the big game. But the way he leaned in, his thick forearm brushing hers as he pointed at a problem, made her stomach flip in ways she didn’t understand.

‘So, Lila,’ Jaxon drawled, his voice a low rumble that sent shivers down her spine. ‘You gonna save my ass or what? Coach’ll bench me if I don’t get this.’

Lila swallowed hard, her cheeks flushing as she adjusted her glasses. ‘I-I’m trying, Jaxon. But you keep... distracting me.’ Her voice was sharp, but there was a tremor beneath it, a crack in her usually composed facade.

He chuckled, leaning closer, his breath hot against her ear. ‘Distracting? Babe, I’m just sittin’ here. Unless you’re thinkin’ about somethin’ else.’ His hand slid an inch closer on the table, fingertips grazing her wrist. Her skin prickled at the touch, and she yanked her hand back, glaring at him.

‘Don’t call me babe,’ she snapped, though her voice wavered. ‘I’m here to help you pass, not to... to play whatever game this is.’

Jaxon’s grin widened, predatory and knowing. ‘Oh, come on, Lila. You’re too smart to play dumb. I see the way you look at me. Those big, innocent eyes? They’re beggin’ for a little trouble.’

Her breath hitched, and she hated how right he was. She’d never admit it, but every time he walked into the library, her body betrayed her—heart pounding, palms sweating, a strange heat pooling between her thighs. She’d never felt this before, not even with Mark, the sweet band geek she’d started dating last week to keep her mind off Jaxon. Mark was safe, kind, everything Jaxon wasn’t. But safe didn’t make her pulse race like this.

‘I’m not begging for anything,’ she shot back, her voice laced with defiance. ‘You’re the one who can’t keep your hands to yourself. Focus on the equation, not on me.’

Jaxon laughed, a deep, throaty sound that vibrated through her. ‘Fine, fine. But you can’t deny there’s somethin’ here, Lila. I feel it. You feel it. And I’m not the type to let a good thing slip away.’ His gaze dropped to her lips, then lower, lingering on the curve of her chest beneath her modest sweater. She squirmed under his stare, crossing her arms defensively.

Inside, Lila’s mind was a storm. *What is wrong with me?* she thought, her inner voice frantic. *He’s a player, a jerk. I shouldn’t want this. I shouldn’t want him to... to touch me.* But the thought of his hands on her, rough and commanding, sent a forbidden thrill through her. She pressed her thighs together, trying to ignore the unfamiliar ache building there.

As the session dragged on, Jaxon’s touches grew bolder. His knee brushed hers under the table, lingering just long enough to make her gasp softly. When he reached for her pencil, his fingers grazed the side of her arm, sending a jolt of electricity through her. She wanted to pull away, to tell him off, but her body wouldn’t listen. It craved more.

‘Jaxon, stop,’ she said finally, her voice firm but breathy. ‘This isn’t... appropriate.’

He smirked, leaning back in his chair, his eyes glinting with challenge. ‘Alright, I’ll behave. For now. But mark my words, Lila, you’re gonna want me to cross that line. And when you do, I’ll be right here, ready to show you what you’ve been missin’.’

The bell rang, signaling the end of their session, but Lila’s heart didn’t stop pounding. As she gathered her books, Jaxon stood, towering over her. He stepped close—too close—his body heat radiating against her. She could smell the faint musk of his cologne, feel the tension crackling between them. For a moment, she thought he might grab her, pull her against him, and... and what? Her mind raced with images she couldn’t shake—his hands on her hips, his lips crashing into hers.

‘See you tomorrow, tutor,’ he murmured, his voice dripping with promise. Then he turned and strode out, leaving her trembling in his wake.

Lila stood frozen, her breath shallow, her body buzzing with a need she didn’t understand. She knew she should run to Mark, cling to the safety of his gentle smiles. But as she watched Jaxon disappear down the hall, she couldn’t deny the truth: she was already teetering on the edge of something dangerous, something she wasn’t sure she could resist.
