Kaylee stretched out on her lounge chair, soaking up the summer sun in her backyard. She couldn't help but reminisce about her childhood, specifically the day she met Nick. She was just five years old, playing in her backyard on a hot summer day, completely unaware of the adventure that awaited her.
The gate creaked open, and a fourteen-year-old boy strolled in, the neighborhood troublemaker. Nick. He had a smirk on his face as he teased, "Well, well, well, if it isn't the princess herself."
Kaylee looked down at her pink dress and rolled her eyes. She wasn't about to let Nick intimidate her. She stood up, determination in her eyes. "You wanna race?" she challenged.
Nick raised an eyebrow, amused. "You wanna race, princess? Alright, but I'm the leader."
Kaylee hesitated but reluctantly agreed. "Fine, but you better not go too fast."
As they raced, Kaylee could hear Nick's laughter behind her. She felt a playful trip, and before she knew it, she was sprawled out in a pile of leaves. Embarrassed, she demanded, "Nick, help me up!"
He smirked, extending his hand, but as she reached for it, he pulled it away, causing her to fall back into the leaves.
"Nick!" she yelled, pushing him away. "You're such a buttface!"
Nick's smirk turned into a full-blown smile. "I like your sass, princess. Wanna see a secret hiding spot?"
Kaylee's curiosity got the best of her, and she followed Nick to a secluded area behind a large bush.
"I saw a snake here once," Nick boasted.
Kaylee raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "Prove it."
Nick stuck out his tongue and accidentally touched Kaylee's private area. She gasped, pushing him away.
Nick looked shocked, but instead of running away, he apologized and offered to help her clean up. Kaylee was surprised by his apology and helpfulness. She allowed him to help her, marking the beginning of an unlikely friendship.
As they walked back to the house, Kaylee couldn't help but feel a flutter in her chest. She brushed it off as a silly childhood crush, but deep down, she knew there was something more between them. Something that would only grow stronger as they got older.
