Amongst them all, the youngest girl, Lily, a precocious 8-year-old, holds her own. She can be seen taunting her 6-year-old cousin, Timmy, calling him names like "stupid boy" and "inferior creature." Lily, like the rest of the women in the family, sees Timmy as nothing more than a nuisance.
As the day progresses, the girls and women engage in various activities, from fencing lessons to intellectual debates, all the while ignoring or belittling Timmy's attempts to join in. Despite his young age, Timmy can sense the disparity between him and the women in his family. He longs to prove his worth, to show them that he is not just a "stupid boy."
During dinner, the family matriarch, Grandmother, tells the story of how she built the mansion with her own two hands, while her husband and sons cowered in her shadow.
