Chapter 1: Farewell at the Pier
The sun dipped low over the horizon, casting a golden sheen across the weathered planks of the pier. The air was thick with the scent of salt and longing as I stood there, waiting for Calypso, the Queen of Atlantis. My heart thrummed with a mix of anticipation and dread. She’d hinted at ending things, and I couldn’t fault her logic. A mermaid and a human—our bodies weren’t exactly made for the full spectrum of passion. But damn, I wasn’t ready to let her go.
The water rippled below, and then she emerged, her light periwinkle skin glowing under the fading light. Her long, poofy dark blue hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face that could command oceans. That purple tail shimmered as she propped herself on the edge of the pier, her elegant transparent purple dress clinging to her curves like a second skin. The tiara of welded stainless steel spoons glinted atop her head, a quirky crown for a fierce ruler.
“You’re late, landwalker,” she said, her voice a sultry melody with an edge sharp enough to cut through the crashing waves. “I don’t have all night to waste on a man who can’t even swim to me.”
I smirked, leaning against a post, trying to mask the ache in my chest. “And I don’t have all night to argue with a queen who thinks she can just wash me out of her life. What’s this about, Calypso? You’re really done with me?”
Her violet eyes narrowed, but there was a flicker of something softer beneath the regal ice. “You know why, Jace. We’ve danced this tide too long. I’m a queen, not a plaything for your surface desires. And let’s be honest—there’s only so much we can do before frustration drowns us both.”
I stepped closer, the heat of her presence pulling me in despite her words. “Frustration? Is that what you call the way you moan when I kiss down your neck? Or the way your tail quivers when my hands roam over you? We’ve got something, Calypso. Don’t pretend we don’t.”
She scoffed, but her breath hitched as I crouched down, eye level with her, my gaze locking onto hers. “You’re cocky for a man who can’t even breathe underwater,” she shot back, though her lips twitched with a reluctant smile. “But fine, I’ll bite. One last night, Jace. One last memory before I dive back to Atlantis for good.”
My pulse raced, a wicked grin spreading across my face. “One last ride, huh? I’ve got a few ideas to make it unforgettable. How about you wrap those royal lips around me, Your Majesty? Or let me slide between those perfect breasts of yours?”
Calypso’s laugh was a siren’s call, dark and dangerous. “You think I’ll just kneel for you? I’m no submissive minnow. If I give you a taste, it’s because I want to see you squirm, begging for more.” She leaned closer, her cool fingers brushing my jaw, sending a jolt straight to my core. “But I warn you, I don’t play gentle.”
I felt myself harden at her words, the thought of her taking control igniting every nerve. “I wouldn’t have it any other way,” I growled, my voice low and hungry. “Let’s make this pier shake, Calypso. Show me what a queen can do.”
Her eyes gleamed with mischief as she tugged me closer, her touch both a promise and a challenge. The world narrowed to the heat between us, the sound of waves crashing below mirroring the storm building in my blood. I could already imagine her mouth on me, hot and demanding, or the slick glide of her skin against mine. My hands itched to explore every inch she’d allow, knowing this might be the last time I’d feel her.
As her lips hovered just inches from mine, the air crackled with raw, untamed desire. Whatever happened next, I knew it would be explosive—and I was ready to drown in it.
