Tides of Temptation

Tides of Temptation

Chapter 1: Waves of Desire

The sun blazed over the secluded stretch of beach, a hidden gem where the ocean whispered secrets against the shore. May, a striking woman in her late thirties with a cascade of sun-kissed auburn hair, lounged on a vibrant beach towel, her curves barely contained by a crimson bikini. Beside her, her twelve-year-old daughter, Lila, built sandcastles with fierce determination, her laughter mingling with the crash of waves. But May’s attention wasn’t on the sand or the sea—it was on the man approaching them, his bronzed skin glistening with saltwater, board shorts slung low on his hips.

'Well, damn,' May muttered under her breath, sliding her sunglasses down her nose to get a better look. 'If the ocean spat out a god, I’m pretty sure that’s him.'

The man, noticing her stare, flashed a crooked grin as he sauntered over, towel slung over his shoulder. 'Mind if I crash your little paradise?' he asked, voice smooth as the tide. 'Name’s Cole. Saw you from down the shore and figured I’d take my chances.'

May smirked, leaning back on her elbows, her posture daring. 'Chances, huh? You’ve got about thirty seconds to convince me you’re worth more than a pretty face, Cole. I don’t play nice with strangers.'

Cole chuckled, dropping to the sand beside her, close enough that she could smell the salt on his skin. 'Fair enough. How about this—I’m a man who knows how to read the waves, and right now, I’m reading a whole lot of heat coming off you. Care to test the waters with me?' His eyes flicked down her body, bold and unapologetic.

May’s lips curled into a wicked smile, her pulse quickening. 'Big talk for a beach bum. You think you can handle a woman who bites back?' She shifted, letting her thigh brush against his, a deliberate tease.

'Oh, I’m counting on it,' Cole shot back, his voice dropping low, a challenge in his gaze. 'I like a woman who knows what she wants. Question is, do you?'

Lila, oblivious to the electric tension, piped up from her sandcastle. 'Mom, can I go look for shells down by the rocks?'

May didn’t break eye contact with Cole. 'Go ahead, kiddo. Stay where I can see you.' As Lila scampered off, May turned back to him, her voice a sultry purr. 'Looks like we’ve got a little privacy now. So, Cole, you gonna keep talking, or are you gonna show me what’s under those shorts that’s got you strutting like a damn peacock?'

Cole’s grin turned feral, and he leaned in, his breath hot against her ear. 'Keep pushing, May, and I’ll have you sweating and panting before the tide comes in. I’m already hard just thinking about that mouth of yours.'

Her laugh was sharp, cutting through the humid air. 'Promises, promises. Let’s see if you can back it up.' She stood, brushing sand off her hips, and nodded toward a cluster of dunes just out of sight. 'Follow me if you’re not all talk.'

As they moved toward the secluded spot, the air between them crackled with raw, unfiltered want. May’s skin prickled with anticipation, her body already responding to the thought of his hands on her. She glanced back, catching the hunger in his eyes, and knew this was about to get messy in the best way. They reached the dunes, hidden from the world, and she turned to face him, her chest heaving. 'Last chance to back out, pretty boy. I don’t do gentle.'

Cole stepped closer, his hand grazing her hip, sending a jolt through her. 'Good. Neither do I.' Their lips crashed together, a collision of heat and need, as the sound of the waves drowned out everything but the promise of what was to come.
