The salty sea breeze whipped through the air as Hephaestus toiled away in his workshop, the sound of hammer on anvil ringing out over the crashing waves. It was there that he received an unexpected visitor: Poseidon, the god of the sea himself.
Hephaestus wiped the sweat from his brow as Poseidon approached, a look of annoyance etched on his face. "What brings you here, Poseidon?" Hephaestus asked, his voice laced with curiosity.
Without a word, Poseidon held out his hand, and Hephaestus placed a sealed envelope in his palm. Poseidon's eyes narrowed as he read the sender's name: Medusa.
"Burn it," Poseidon growled, his eyes flicking up to meet Hephaestus's.
But Hephaestus only chuckled. "Oh, you'll want to read this one, Poseidon. It's not every day you get a letter from a Gorgon."
Poseidon's expression was one of disbelief as he snatched the envelope from Hephaestus's grasp. With a roll of his eyes, he broke the seal and unfolded the letter within.
As he read, his face morphed from annoyance to shock. "Medusa had children?!" he exclaimed, his voice rising in incredulity.
Hephaestus smirked. "Yes, twins. A boy and a girl. And it seems they need your support."
Poseidon's eyes scanned the letter, his expression growing darker with each word. "Three thousand dollars a month?!" he bellowed.
Hephaestus threw back his head and laughed. "Looks like you've got a new responsibility, Poseidon."
Poseidon scowled. "This can't be real. Medusa couldn't have had children."
Hephaestus shrugged. "Believe what you want, but the letter is clear. You're a father now."
Poseidon grumbled, his fingers clenching around the letter. "Fine, I'll pay. But only because it's for the children."
Hephaestus grinned. "Always the softie, Poseidon."
Poseidon glared. "Don't push your luck, Hephaestus."
But Hephaestus only chuckled, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Lighten up, Poseidon. It's not the end of the world."
And so, with a grumble and a scowl, Poseidon agreed to support his unexpected offspring. But Hephaestus couldn't help but chuckle as the god of the sea stormed off, muttering under his breath. It seemed that even the strongest of the gods couldn't escape the unexpected twists and turns of life.
