**Chapter 1: The Proposition and the Meeting**
Sarah adjusted her sleek black dress in the mirror, her sharp green eyes glinting with a mix of curiosity and resolve. At thirty-eight, she was a woman who knew her worth—confident, assertive, and unapologetically in control. Her husband, Neil, had broached the idea of a friend with benefits over a tense dinner two weeks ago, his voice low and hesitant as he admitted his struggles with erectile dysfunction. 'I just want you to be satisfied, Sarah. I can’t give you what you need right now,' he’d said, his eyes avoiding hers.
Sarah had leaned forward, her tone cutting through the awkward silence. 'Let’s get one thing straight, Neil. If I do this, it’s on my terms. I pick who, when, and how. You don’t get to play puppet master.'
Neil had nodded, a flicker of relief in his expression. 'Of course. I trust you.'
That trust led her to Chris—a rugged, charming contractor she’d met through a mutual friend. At forty-two, he carried an air of effortless confidence, his broad shoulders and sly grin hinting at a man who knew exactly how to handle himself. Their initial conversations over coffee had been charged with unspoken tension, and when Sarah proposed meeting alone to 'discuss the arrangement,' Chris had smirked, his voice a low rumble. 'Discuss, huh? I’m guessing you’ve got more than words in mind, Sarah.'
She’d arched a brow, unfazed. 'Don’t flatter yourself just yet. I’m not here to stroke your ego—or anything else—until I’m sure we’re on the same page.'
Now, standing on Chris’s doorstep, the evening air cool against her skin, Sarah felt a thrill of anticipation. She rang the bell, and the door swung open to reveal Chris in a fitted black shirt, his dark eyes raking over her with unabashed appreciation. 'Damn, Sarah. You look like trouble I’m dying to get into.'
She smirked, stepping past him, her heels clicking on the hardwood floor. 'Keep dreaming, Chris. I’m here to lay down ground rules, not to be your fantasy on a silver platter.'
He chuckled, closing the door behind her. 'Fair enough. But I’ve got a feeling you’re not just here for a PowerPoint presentation. Drink?'
She nodded, settling onto his leather couch as he poured two glasses of whiskey. 'Let’s cut to the chase,' she said, taking the glass, her fingers brushing his deliberately. 'This isn’t a relationship. It’s physical. I call the shots. If I say stop, we stop. If I say go, you’d better keep up.'
Chris leaned back, his gaze locked on hers, a playful challenge in his tone. 'I like a woman who knows what she wants. And trust me, I can keep up. Question is, can you handle me when I’m all in?'
Sarah laughed, a sharp, confident sound. 'Oh, honey, I’ve handled bigger egos than yours. Try me.'
The air between them crackled, the whiskey forgotten as Chris set his glass down, his voice dropping to a husky whisper. 'Careful what you wish for, Sarah. I don’t play nice unless you ask.'
She leaned closer, her breath warm against his ear, her words dripping with intent. 'Good. I don’t want nice. I want raw. I want to feel every damn thing.'
His hand slid to her thigh, firm and deliberate, as her pulse quickened. She could feel the heat radiating from him, the promise of something untamed. Her fingers curled into his shirt, pulling him closer, her lips hovering just over his. 'Show me what you’ve got, Chris. Don’t hold back.'
Their mouths crashed together, hungry and fierce, as the tension that had been building for weeks exploded into something primal. Her hands roamed his chest, feeling the hard muscle beneath, while his grip tightened on her hips, pulling her against him. She could feel him, already hard, pressing into her, and a wicked smile curved her lips as she whispered, 'Let’s see if you’re as good as you talk.'
