Unspoken Heat

Unspoken Heat

Chapter 1: Simmering Secrets

Lila leaned against the kitchen counter, her sharp green eyes glinting with mischief as she watched Ethan fumble with the coffee maker. Her best friend since childhood, Ethan was the kind of guy who could fix a car engine blindfolded but somehow couldn’t brew a decent cup of joe. They’d shared everything over the years—secrets, dreams, late-night confessions—but lately, Lila had noticed a different kind of tension brewing between them. A heat she couldn’t ignore.

‘Seriously, Ethan, are you trying to drown us in coffee grounds?’ she teased, crossing her arms, her tank top clinging to her curves in a way that made Ethan’s gaze flicker for just a second too long.

He smirked, brushing a hand through his messy dark hair. ‘Hey, if I wanted a barista, I’d have called someone else. You’re stuck with my shitty coffee skills, babe.’

‘Babe?’ Lila arched a brow, stepping closer, her voice dripping with playful challenge. ‘Since when did you get so bold, huh? Thought I was just your homely little sidekick.’

Ethan turned, his broad shoulders filling the small space between them, and met her gaze with a slow, dangerous grin. ‘Homely? Lila, you’ve never been homely a day in your life. You’re a goddamn wildfire, and you know it.’

Her breath hitched, but she didn’t back down. Instead, she tilted her chin up, her lips curling into a smirk of her own. ‘Oh, so you’ve noticed? Took you long enough. What else have you been noticing, Ethan?’

His eyes darkened, tracing the line of her jaw, down to the curve of her neck. ‘More than I should. More than I’ve got any right to.’

The air crackled, thick with unspoken want. Lila stepped even closer, her body brushing against his, the heat of him seeping through her skin. ‘Rights are overrated,’ she murmured, her voice low and daring. ‘What do you want, Ethan? Right now.’

His hands hovered at her hips, fingers twitching with restraint. ‘Lila, if I start, I’m not stopping. You sure you wanna play this game?’

She laughed, a sharp, wicked sound, and pressed herself against him, feeling the hard line of his body tense under her touch. ‘I don’t play games, Ethan. I win them.’

In a heartbeat, his restraint snapped. His hands gripped her hips, pulling her flush against him as his mouth crashed into hers, hungry and unrelenting. Lila matched his fire, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him closer, her tongue teasing his with a boldness that made him groan. She could feel him, hard and insistent against her thigh, and a rush of heat flooded her core, leaving her wet with anticipation. Their breaths came fast, panting already, as they stumbled back against the counter, coffee forgotten.

‘Fuck, Lila,’ he growled against her lips, his voice rough with need. ‘You’ve got no idea how long I’ve wanted this.’

‘Then show me,’ she shot back, her nails grazing down his back, her body aching for more. ‘Don’t hold back now.’

And as his hands slid under her shirt, fingers brushing the edge of her dripping desire, Lila knew this was only the beginning of a fire neither of them could extinguish.
