Chapter 1: The Spark Ignites
The hotel suite was a cocoon of luxury, all silken sheets and dim golden light, but the real heat was in the air between us. I stood by the window, the city sprawling below like a carpet of stars, my heart thumping as I adjusted the lace of my ivory negligee. Tonight was the night—our first as husband and wife. And damn, I wasn’t about to let it be anything less than explosive.
‘So, Mr. Bennett,’ I purred, turning to face him, my voice dripping with challenge. ‘Think you can handle your new wife on her wedding night?’
Ethan, all sharp jawline and smoldering eyes, leaned against the doorframe, his tuxedo jacket already discarded, shirt unbuttoned just enough to tease the hard planes of his chest. He smirked, that cocky grin I’d fallen for years ago. ‘Handle you, Mrs. Bennett? I’ve been waiting to unravel you since the day we met. Question is, can you keep up?’
I laughed, low and throaty, stepping closer, my hips swaying with intent. ‘Oh, sweetheart, I’m not just keeping up. I’m setting the pace. Don’t blink, or you’ll miss the ride.’
His eyes darkened, raking over me like a predator sizing up prey, but I wasn’t about to be hunted. I was the one leading this dance. I stopped inches from him, the heat of his body already making my skin prickle. ‘You’ve got a lot of talk, Ethan. Let’s see if that mouth of yours is good for more than just witty banter.’
‘Challenge accepted,’ he growled, closing the gap, his hands sliding to my waist with a grip that was firm but not forceful. ‘But don’t think I’m letting you call all the shots. I’ve got plans for that sharp tongue of yours.’
‘Plans, huh?’ I arched a brow, pressing against him, feeling the hard evidence of his desire through the thin fabric between us. ‘Better make them good, because I’m not easily impressed.’
He chuckled, a dark, delicious sound, his breath hot against my ear. ‘Oh, I’ll impress you, darling. I’ll have you panting, sweating, begging for more before the night’s through.’
My pulse raced, heat pooling low in my belly, making me wet with anticipation. ‘Big words. Let’s see if you can back them up.’ I tilted my head, daring him with a look as I trailed a finger down his chest. ‘Because I’m already dripping for a man who can match me, not just tease me.’
Ethan’s grip tightened, his voice a rough whisper. ‘Teasing’s over, love. I’m about to show you just how hard I can play.’
Our lips crashed together, a collision of hunger and fire, tongues battling for dominance as we stumbled toward the bed. My hands were in his hair, his were on my ass, pulling me closer, grinding against me until I could feel every inch of his need. We were a storm waiting to break, and as we fell onto the sheets, I knew this was just the beginning of a night neither of us would forget.
