"Gods, this hurts!" she exclaimed, letting out a scream as another contraction hit.
Just as things were starting to reach a fever pitch, the door to the birthing chamber burst open and in walked Hermes, looking worried. "Is everything alright?" he asked, taking in the scene.
One of the nymphs, holding the newborn baby girl, nodded and said, "Yes, everything is fine. The baby and the mother are both healthy."
Hermes breathed a sigh of relief as he approached the bed. He took in the witch's sweaty, disheveled appearance and couldn't help but be reminded of how fierce and strong she was. "You're still as stubborn as ever, I see," he said with a small smile. "I should have known you wouldn't need my help."
The witch glared at him, still in pain. "I wouldn't have needed your help if you hadn't left me in the first place," she retorted.
Hermes had the decency to look sheepish. "I know, I know. I was a fool. Can we maybe talk about this later?"
The witch rolled her eyes. "Fine, but only because I have more important things to worry about right now."
Hermes nodded and took a seat next to the bed. He watched as the witch nursed the baby, marveling at the miracle of life. "She's beautiful," he said softly. "Just like her mother."
The witch snorted. "Don't try to butter me up now, Hermes. It's too late for that."
Hermes held up his hands in surrender. "I understand. But can we at least try to be civil for the sake of our daughter?"
The witch considered this for a moment before nodding. "Fine. But don't think this means we're back together."
Hermes smiled. "I wouldn't dream of it. But I would like to be a part of our daughter's life."
The chapter ends with the two of them coming to a tentative agreement, the beginning of a new chapter in their relationship. The witch, still strong and controlling, allows Hermes back into her life, but only on her terms. It's clear that there is still much to be worked out between them, but for now, they are focused on the beautiful new life they have created together.
