Aphrodite stood in front of the mirror, her hands trembling as she held two positive pregnancy tests. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. How could this have happened? She was the goddess of love and beauty, for crying out loud. She was supposed to be immune to such mortal mistakes.
But there it was, staring back at her in black and white. She was pregnant. And not just pregnant, but pregnant with twins.
Hestia walked in and saw Aphrodite’s distressed expression. She took a closer look at the tests and raised an eyebrow. “Well, well, well, someone’s got themselves in a bit of a predicament.”
Aphrodite burst into tears and told Hestia about the one night stand with her ex-husband Hephaestus, the god of fire and metalworking. “I was so drunk, Hestia. I didn’t even realize what I was doing.”
Hestia put an arm around Aphrodite’s shoulders and led her to the living room. “Come on, let’s get you to the hospital. You need to make sure everything’s okay.”
At the hospital, Aphrodite sat nervously in the waiting room, while Hestia flipped through a magazine. “I can’t believe this is happening,” Aphrodite said, wiping away tears. “Hestia, what am I going to do?”
Hestia looked up from her magazine and gave Aphrodite a stern look. “First of all, stop crying. You’re a goddess, for crying out loud. You can handle this.”
Aphrodite sniffs and tries to stop crying. “But twins, Hestia. I’m going to be a mother of twins.”
Hestia chuckled. “Well, at least you’ll have two of them to share the love with. And think of the fashion shows you can put on for them.”
Aphrodite managed a small smile. “I guess you’re right. I just need to start thinking positively.”
The doctor came in and confirmed the pregnancy. “Congratulations, you’re pregnant with twins. Everything looks healthy, but you’ll need to take good care of yourself.”
Aphrodite looked at Hestia, who gave her a thumbs up. “See, I told you everything would be okay.”
Aphrodite took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “I guess I need to start making some decisions. I need to tell Hephaestus, for one thing.”
Hestia nodded. “Yeah, you do. And you need to start thinking about what kind of mother you want to be. You’re going to be great, Aphrodite. I have no doubt about that.”
Aphrodite smiled and took Hestia’s hand. “Thank you, Hestia. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Hestia squeezed Aphrodite’s hand. “You’d figure it out. You’re a goddess, remember? Now, let’s get you home and start planning for those little bundles of joy.”
