The living room was filled with the comfortable hum of the old television, the warm glow casting long shadows across the room. Nick, a lanky teenager of fourteen, flipped through the channels with practiced ease, his mind only half-focused on the task. Nick chuckled, hiding his amusement. "Well, you have to do something 'grown-up' to be considered a big kid."
Kaylee's face scrunched up in confusion. "What do I have to do?"
Nick leaned back in his chair, a wicked glint in his eye. "You have to do something... naughty."
Kaylee's confusion deepened, her brows furrowing. "What's 'naughty', Nick?"
Nick shrugged, trying to come up with a simple explanation. "It's something you're not supposed to do."
Kaylee's face cleared, a determined look replacing her confusion. "I want to be a big kid, Nick."
Nick grinned, his playful smirk growing. "Well, then you have to do something really 'naughty' to be considered a big kid."
Kaylee's eyes sparkled with mischief, her small hands clenching into fists. "Okay, Nick. I'll show you how big I am."
Nick laughed, shaking his head. "Alright, Lee-lee. But remember, you asked for it."
As the night wore on, Kaylee proved to be quite the little instigator, coming up with all sorts of "naughty" things to do. From sneaking cookies from the kitchen after bedtime to leaving silly notes for their parents to find in the morning, Kaylee was determined to prove her "big kid" status. And through it all, Nick couldn't help but be proud of his little sister, her strong spirit and determination shining through in everything she did.
As the night drew to a close, Nick looked down at Kaylee, her small form curled up on the couch, fast asleep. He couldn't help but smile, his heart swelling with love for the little firecracker.
"Goodnight, Lee-lee," he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "You'll always be my big kid."
