The bathroom was a marble palace, adorned with intricate mosaics and gleaming gold fixtures. It was a sanctuary, a place where one could escape the chaos of the world outside. But for Medusa, it had become a place of torment.
She retched into the toilet, her brown hair disheveled and her face pale. She tried to play it cool, to pretend that everything was fine. But the bile rising in her throat betrayed her.
The door opened, and Athena entered the bathroom with a concerned expression. Her grey eyes were filled with curiosity, and Medusa felt a flush of guilt. She knew that Athena had overheard her conversation with Hermes, and she braced herself for the goddess's wrath.
"Medusa, are you alright?" Athena asked, her voice filled with concern.
Medusa wiped her mouth and tried to smile. "I'm fine, Athena. Just a little upset stomach."
Athena raised an eyebrow. "Upset stomach, hmm? I couldn't help but overhear your conversation with Hermes. It sounded like more than just an upset stomach."
Medusa felt cornered. She knew that she couldn't hide the truth from Athena. "I'm afraid that I might be pregnant, Athena. And I'm terrified that it might be your child."
Athena tried to keep a straight face, but a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. "Medusa, are you sure it's my child and not someone else's?"
Medusa felt indignant. "Of course, I'm sure! I haven't been with anyone else but you and Hermes."
Athena's smile broke into a full-blown laugh. "Oh, Medusa, it's been a while since I've had to worry about such matters. It's not every day that I'm accused of 'baby-trapping' someone."
Medusa's tears welled up in her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Athena. I didn't mean for this to happen. I never wanted to hurt you."
Athena was moved by Medusa's sincerity. She took Medusa's hand and looked into her eyes. "Medusa, we'll figure this out. We'll face this challenge together. I may not have wanted children, but I never wanted to hurt you either."
Medusa looked at Athena, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Are you sure you want to be a part of this, Athena? I know that you never wanted children."
Athena looked at Medusa with a determined look in her eyes. "I may be the goddess of war and wisdom, Medusa, but I can handle anything. I'm not afraid of this challenge."
Medusa smiled, touched by Athena's words. "Thank you, Athena. I'm so grateful for your support."
Athena reminded Medusa of her strength and determination. "Medusa, I'm still the goddess of war. Don't forget that."
Medusa laughed, promising to never underestimate Athena's strength. "I won't, Athena. I promise."
And with that, the two women left the bathroom, ready to face the challenge ahead of them. They were strong, controlling, and direct. They were warriors, and they were ready to fight for what they wanted. Together.
