The living room of the suburban home was filled with the dim glow of the TV as Nick flipped through the channels, trying to find something suitable to watch while babysitting his five-year-old neighbor, Kaylee. She sat next to him on the couch, engrossed in playing with her dolls, oblivious to his struggle.
"Jeez, Kaylee. You still playing with those baby toys?" Nick teased, trying to be funny.
Kaylee looked up at him, her big brown eyes narrowing. "You're just a big baby yourself, Nick. Afraid of watching a horror movie," she retorted, a small smile playing on her lips.
Nick felt a little embarrassed at being called out by a five-year-old. Determined to prove Kaylee wrong, he put on a horror movie, the gory images flickering on the screen.
As the movie progressed, Kaylee became more and more scared, her small body shaking as she clutched onto Nick for comfort. He tried to make light of the situation, joking about her "cute" fear. But Kaylee was not amused.
"You're not man enough to handle this movie, Nick," she taunted, her voice barely above a whisper.
Nick, feeling a little challenged, tried to act tough and brave. But as the movie got scarier, Kaylee started to cry a little. Feeling bad, Nick pulled her closer, letting her sit on his lap.
