The forge was usually filled with the sound of clanging hammers and the heat of molten metal, but today it was empty except for Hephaestus. His face was red from the heat, and from the embarrassment of the earlier encounter with Aphrodite and Ares. He slammed the door behind him, taking a deep breath to calm himself down.
But his solitude was short-lived. Cady entered the forge, uninvited and unannounced. She looked around, taking in the sight of the empty workspace. Hephaestus tensed up at her presence, but she approached him with a hand on his shoulder. He flinched, but she didn't seem to notice.
"What's wrong?" she asked, a smirk playing on her lips.
Hephaestus hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But Cady had a way of making him feel at ease. He told her about the encounter with Aphrodite and Ares, expecting her to laugh or make a joke. But instead, she laughed, not unkindly, and called them "a pair of buffoons."
Hephaestus looked at her, surprised by her reaction. She smiled at him, and he couldn't help but return it. "Why are you being so nice to me?" he asked, his heart racing.
Cady shrugged, and patted him on the shoulder. "I like you," she said simply.
Hephaestus was shocked. He had always admired Cady from afar, but he never thought she would feel the same way. She was strong and controlling, always in charge. And he was the god of fire and metal, often the butt of everyone's jokes.
Cady could sense his apprehension. "You're a good person, Hephaestus," she said, looking him in the eye. "You deserve better than what Aphrodite and Ares have given you."
Hephaestus looked at her, his heart racing. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Cady took his hand and led him to a nearby bench. They sat down, and she leaned her head on his shoulder.
Hephaestus looked at her, surprised by her actions. She smiled at him, and he couldn't help but smile back. He felt a connection to her, something he had never felt before.
Cady told him that she had something to tell him. He looked at her, his heart racing. "I'm pregnant," she said, her voice soft. "And you're the father."
Hephaestus was shocked, but then he broke into a huge grin. He couldn't believe it. He was going to be a father. And not just to any child, but to Cady's child.
He pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her. "I can't wait," he said, his voice filled with emotion.
Cady smiled, and leaned into his embrace. She knew they would face challenges ahead, but she was ready for them. Together, they could face anything.
