When the Men Were Gone: A Tail of Love, Witchcraft, and Hilariously Complicated Canine Relationships

Chapter One: A Curious Curse

The sun beat down on the village square, casting a warm glow over the group of women gathered there. They were all chattering away, their voices blending together in a cacophony of gossip and laughter. The men of the village had all left to fight in the war, leaving the women to hold down the fort.

"I heard that Thomas wrote Sarah a letter, saying he couldn't wait to get back home to her," said one of the women, a mischievous twinkle in her eye.

"Oh, please. Thomas wouldn't know what to do with Sarah if he had her tied up in front of him," scoffed another.

The women all laughed, their laughter ringing out in the square. But their merriment was cut short by the approach of a mysterious old woman, her gnarled hands clutching a wooden cane.

The women watched as she hobbled towards them, her long black cloak dragging on the ground behind her. She was rumored to be a witch, living on the outskirts of the village. The women had always given her a wide berth, but today, she seemed determined to speak with them.

"I have a warning for you all," she croaked, her voice like gravel. "A curse, placed upon this village."

The women laughed, their laughter echoing through the square. "A curse? Oh, please. We're not afraid of a silly superstition," one of them said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

But as the days passed, the women began to notice strange changes in their behavior. They found themselves becoming increasingly attracted to their dogs, the furry creatures that had always been their loyal companions.

At first, they tried to ignore the changes, brushing them off as nothing more than a strange quirk. But as the attraction grew stronger, it became harder and harder to resist.

Sarah, the village's alpha female, was the first to take notice. She was a strong and confident woman, known for her no-nonsense attitude and her ability to get things done. She was not one to be trifled with, and she was not about to let this strange attraction control her.

She confronted the other women about it, her voice firm and commanding. "What's going on here? I've noticed some strange behavior, and I want to know what's causing it."

The women were hesitant to admit the truth, but Sarah's no-nonsense attitude forced them to come clean. "It's the dogs," one of them finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We're becoming attracted to them."

Sarah's eyes narrowed. "That's ridiculous. We can't let ourselves be controlled by our desires. We need to get to the bottom of this mystery."

She sought out the old woman, demanding answers. The old woman revealed the curse she had placed on the village: the women would slowly become sexually attracted to their dogs.

Sarah was insulted. "You must be desperate for attention if you're cursing an entire village of women," she spat, her voice dripping with disdain.

The old woman was amused by Sarah's spirit. "The curse can only be broken if you can resist your desires until the men return from war," she told her.

Sarah was confident in the women's strength. She rallied them together, leading them in a pledge to resist the curse. "We are strong," she declared. "We will not let this curse control us. We will remain faithful to our men, no matter what."

The women, united in their goal, returned to their homes, determined to fight the curse. The days passed, and the women struggled with their desires, but they remained strong, thanks to Sarah's leadership.

The chapter ended with the women, now even closer than before, eagerly awaiting the return of their men from war. The curse had brought them together in a way they never could have imagined, and they were determined to break it, once and for all.
