Alice lay in her hospital bed, her heart pounding in her chest as she heard the heavy footsteps of the guards approaching. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She knew who was coming, and she wasn't sure if she was ready to see him.
The guards entered the room, their faces expressionless as they approached her bed. "The king is on his way to visit you, Miss Alice," one of them said, his voice devoid of emotion.
Alice's mind raced as she remembered the traumatic events that had led her to this point. She had been held captive in the dungeon, raped and beaten for years. And now, the man who was supposed to protect her was coming to see her. She wasn't sure if she could handle it.
The king entered the room, and Alice's heart skipped a beat. She tried to scream, but her voice failed her. She began to feel a familiar panic rising within her, and she knew she was on the verge of another psychotic break.
The king approached her bed, his face filled with concern. "Alice, it's okay. I'm here to help you," he said, his voice soft and soothing.
But Alice was beyond help. She was consumed by her anger and pain, and she couldn't hold back any longer. "How could you let this happen? You're the king! You're supposed to protect your people!" she screamed, her voice filled with rage.
The king tried to reason with her, but Alice was beyond reason. She threw things at him, her anger and pain overwhelming her. "You're a useless, spineless coward," she spat, her words laced with venom.
The king tried not to let her words affect him, but Alice could see the hurt in his eyes. She continued to insult him, calling him "incompetent" and "heartless." The king sat quietly, listening to her rant, his face a mask of calm.
Finally, Alice was exhausted from her outburst. She fell back onto her bed, her body trembling from the exertion. The king stood up, still concerned for her well-being.
"Alice, I'm sorry for what happened to you. I should have been there to protect you," he said, his voice filled with regret.
Alice looked at him, her eyes filled with anger. "You can't just waltz in here and expect me to forgive you," she said, her voice filled with bitterness.
The king nodded, understanding her feelings. "I know it's not that simple, but I want to be here for you. I want to help you heal," he said, his voice sincere.
Alice was surprised by his words. She didn't expect him to stay, but she found herself wanting him to. She nodded, and the king pulled up a chair next to her bed.
They sat in silence for a while, both lost in their own thoughts. Alice looked at the king, and for the first time, she saw him not as a monster, but as a man. She saw the glimmer of hope in his eyes, and she reached out and took his hand.
The king looked at her, his eyes filled with relief. He was grateful for this small gesture, and he knew that it was the first step in healing the wounds of the past. He squeezed her hand, and Alice smiled, her anger and pain slowly fading away.
Together, they would heal and move forward, leaving the darkness of the past behind them. The king and Alice would build a new future, one filled with love and hope.
